Fun Stuff

Trivia:

In this episode, Lydia and Russell are told that they will not be able to get a rape kit analyzed (and possibly find out who the rapist is) because there is such a large backlog of forensic materials in the lab waiting to be analyzed that some of the waiting cases are over ten years old. This is taken straight from a true scandal of Los Angeles law enforcement: in March 2009, the organization Human Rights Watch released a report revealing that at that time, there was a backlog of over 12,600 untested rape kits in storage facilities; over 450 of those were over 10 years old; and many of those were evidence in cases for which the statute of limitations had expired. more

Goofs:

Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The white numbers on the trunk lids of LAPD cars represent the area of assignment; for example, 1 is for Central, 2 is for Rampart, 3 is for Southwest, etc. The radio calls patrol units get also use the same numeric indicator. For example, 1A11 would be a two-officer patrol car assigned Central Area, 3L50 would be a single supervisor car assigned Southwest Area. The trunk lid numbers on Southland vehicles are marked 21 but the officers are using area 6 as their radio code. 6 represents Hollywood Area and there should be a white 6 or 06 on the trunk lid. The number on the roof represents nothing but the last three numbers of the vehicle number. However, the changes may be deliberate, as the characters uncharacteristically shift from one area of assignment to another in order to depict events in different areas of the city using the same characters. more

Quotes:

Dina Clarke: So what are you doin'? Typin' a letter or somethin'?
Det. Russell Clarke: No, I'm gonna write.
Dina Clarke: You are *so* competitive.
Det. Russell Clarke: Can we not do this right now?
Dina Clarke: But seriously, I write, so now you have to write?
Det. Russell Clarke: Can't we just both write?
Dina Clarke: You and every other cop - everyone thinks they're a writer.
Det. Russell Clarke: You know what, Dina? You're not exactly Dostoyevsky, all right?
Dina Clarke: ...You're screwing that teacher, aren't you?
Det. Russell Clarke: [bewildered by the question] ... No.
