Dexter Morgan:
[voiceover] I know that look. I've had that look. He likes control. Needs it. So I'll take it away from him.
Dexter Morgan:
[calmly] I killed Freebo. Sorry 'bout that.
Dexter Morgan:
I tied him up, not unlike this. Stabbed him in the left carotid artery. Used his 16-Inch carbon steel bone saw to separate his limbs.

You're lying.
Dexter Morgan:
Usually, not now- no point.
George King:
Why would you have done such a thing?
Dexter Morgan:
Oh I have my excuses and justifications, but really I just... need to. Like you. You have your excuses, finding Freebo, getting your money. But you know he's dead. You know there's no money, so really you're just... a killer. A monster. The stuff of nightmares.

If I have learned anything from watching this show for three incredible seasons, it's not to second-guess the writing team behind the dark brilliance of each and every episode. What a roller-coaster ride it's been, but never as twisted, bumpy or unpredictable as Season Three, with this story arc featuring the dynamite Jimmy Smits as the deceptively sociopathic DA Miguel Prado.
Watching him go mano-a-mano with Michael C. Hall was like sitting in on a guitar duel between B.B. King and the late, great Bo Diddley, and I am sorry it had to end as all good things must. But DEX fans have certainly been gifted with the way this season of shocks and surprises has left our 'hero' - as a newly christened 'family man' - which is really the biggest surprise of all.
Is it really possible for him to remain in light while his "dark passenger" continues to go along for the ride? And what does the future hold for our vigilante serial killer, whose moonlighting work sometimes has a pesky and frightening way of following him home?
I don't know how closely the books have been followed at this point, but I know I'm hooked as long as this show is on, and I can't wait to start reading them.
So long until Season Four, Mr. Morgan. We hardly knew ye at Season One...and we're only starting to scratch the surface even now.
