I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil video games and I was excited to see that the people who made the games were making a film based on the games that was canonical (as opposed to the live action films). I have to admit, I was a little nervous before seeing it because it was made with a low budget and I had read a lot of mixed reviews for it. However, it turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would.I know a lot of people are going to hate that I'm saying this because the truth hurts, but this film IS better than the live action ones. Why? The answer is very simple: because it actually follows the same plot line and uses the same characters as the games that it's based on. Not only does it use the same characters as the games, but it gets the characters right and doesn't mutilate them like the second and third live action films did. Despite the film's low budget, I thought the computer animation was very good. I really liked the fact that it was computer animated because that made it feel so much more like RE than the live action films and it seemed as though the games had come to life. I also really liked how they used the actors who voiced the characters in the games. The action was exciting and the plot was very well constructed with lots of twists and turns. I thought the plot was a lot more well done than most of the games' plots. A lot of reviewers on this site (who aren't even fans of the RE games, mind you) have been calling this film "stupid" and "ridiculous". Come on, people! It's an animated movie based on a video game for fans of the games! What did you expect? A reviewer who called this film "utterly ridiculous" makes it clear that he's not a fanboy and is so much more sophisticated than that, but somehow, that didn't keep him from watching the film in the first place. Another reviewer somehow thinks that it's wrong to imply that anyone who's not a fan of the games is unqualified to give an opinion of this film, but somehow thinks it's okay to assume that anyone who likes this film likes it because they've been so exposed to video games with bad voice acting and plots. From that statement, he's clearly aware that these games have what he perceives to be poor quality, but once again, that still didn't keep him from watching this film even though it was not only based on these games, but also was made by the creators of them and used the same voice actors from them. I sure hope he didn't see it just to hate on it and its fans. How pathetic. This is a film for fans of the games, so if you're not a fan of the games, I'm not sure why you're watching it in the first place unless, of course, you have no life. Then again, haters like that usually DO have no life. Once again, it's for the fans, so if you're not a fan, don't waste you're time watching it and then hating on it on this site because the fans who like it don't want to hear from you.
