*** This comment may contain spoilers ***
This is definitely one of the best novelas I have ever seen, and I have see quite a few!! The female protagonist, Jacky Bracamontes, does a wonderful job on interpeting the bold and feminist Candy. The male lead, Jaime Camil, does a fantastic job as the seductive and comical Santiago. These two together have a beautiful chemistry that enlighten the television screen every night, not to mention that they make an extremely sexy couple. Now if you're looking for the typical, common novela with the same typical suffering characters of love...this is not it. Candy is unlike any other character I've ever seen. When her husband, Patricio, betrays her the same day as the wedding, instead of the usual suffering and later forgiving woman in love, Candy fakes her own death and decides to forget her past and begin a new life. A life where she will strive to become successful without the necesity of a man by her side. The catch here? Candy discovers a few days after her "death" that she is pregnant. But Candy is determined to never forgive the man who broke her heart and with the help of her beloved uncle raises Chava all by herself. Something else completely different from any other novela? It takes 7 years for the protagonists to meet. Needless to say, they get off on the wrong foot when Candy realizes Santiago is the typical womanizer who uses women only a forms as pleasure and not for love. Santiago at first is only interested in Candy to seduce her but quickly realizes she is truly something else and falls in love with her. Though Candy and Santiago fight like a married couple in every one of their encounters, a strong attraction grows between them. An attraction that becomes challenged by the crazy Marissa, who swears to get revenge on Santiago who leaves her at the altar for Candy, and the obsessive Patricio who has discovered that Candy is alive and will do absolutely anything in order to have her at his side. Even if that means using their son, and the fact that she denied him to Patricio, to his advantage. After several episodes of indecision and confusion, Candy has accepted the love of Santiago and has left it clear to Patricio that what they had is thing of the past and that she no longer feels love for him. But it will be awhile before Santiago and Candy can have their "happy ending" as Candy will be have to decide if her happiness is worth more than the happiness of her son and as Santiago will continue to struggle to find his newborn baby that Marisa disappeared with in order to make him pay for never loving her. Will Candy and Santiago ever be allowed to love each other freely? If their love is true and real, like Santiago swears to Candy, they will have that "happy ending." This novela not only has a wonderful and realistic story of love, it also includes controversial subplots such as plastic surgery, feminisim, HIV in teenagers, drug abuse, sexual abuse, homosexuality, abortion, safe sex procedures, obesity, anorexia, bulimia, sterilization, leukemia, alcoholisim and mental illnesses. Not only does this novela entertains, it informs and educates and really opens your eyes to the dangers of the real world. Over all, it promotes the dignity of woman and how being female does not mean being dominated by man. It promotes the capacity a woman has to become her own person without letting herself be stepped on by anyone. As Candy says, Stupid Woman Don't go to Heaven!
