Red Canvas is a great action film, but also has a compelling story line. I first became aware of the film at the Action of Film Festival in Pasadena , This was the film that everyone wanted to see. I was very pleased to get a ticket because it was announced as sold out. The movie did not disappoint. As expected the martial arts action was first rate. It was really exciting to see Ernie Reyes Jr. and Ernie Reyes Sr. In my view they are the best in the business and their action sequences were the superb. The action sequences alone would make seeing this film worthwhile.
The surprise for me was that there was a great story well told by a great cast. John Savage delivers an excellent performance as would be expected of a screen veteran. My personal favorite was the lovely Maria Conchita Alonso. She brings depth and delivers an excellent performance .Hopefully, ,we will see her in more film roles in the near future.
The directors Kenneth Chamitoff and Adam Boster need to be recognized for their exceptional direction. They have effectively blended the action sequences and compelling drama together that will definitely keep you focused on this exciting story. In addition. the production values, score, locations all contribute to make it look like a much bigger budget film. I highly recommend and believe it will not disappoint.
