Tomas is MUCH better! He went home to Kansas City right before Thanksgiving. I saw his Mom on New Years Day ( I do get regular reports from her boyfriend who is a good friend of mine) and she says that he's still improving every day and doing well. His brother, Nathan, arrived home from his second tour in Iraq in December, so it was a good holiday season for their family.

When Tomas first got here it was heartbreaking to see him. I'd only seen him in the movie, I'd never met him in person. It was awful, he couldn't move anything but his head, someone had to do everything for him. He could hardly talk, he couldn't concentrate; would just zone out in the middle of a sentence, it was just terrible to see him that way. But as time went on, that rehab center performed miracles. They worked him like mad in physical therapy and they figured out that his seizures were caused by an infection in his gall bladder, of all things. Once they removed it and got him off all the anti seizure meds, he improved quickly. By the time he went home, he had full use of his right arm and hand and almost full use of his left. Now he's praying for stem cell research to maybe help with the spinal cord injury... but he's happy. He met someone while he was in Chicago, a lovely young woman named Claudia and she moved to KC with him. So, I am very pleased to be able to say that there's nothing but good news to report about Tomas these days!

Thanks for asking and take care,

Kathy
