"Trail End" is a marvelous quiet, mature, poem of a movie. With excellent acting, gorgeous photography and locations, and a sure, steady, creative voice, this simple tale of an aging cowboy and horse taking a last ride to fulfill an old dream is moving and elegant. Never falling into the usual short film "see what I can do" traps, it rewards the viewer by telling its story simply and beautifully. Also, unlike most feature Westerns of the last few decades, this is clearly a movie by, for, and about people who truly live and breathe this world. By the end of the film, you'll feel you know the people, the horse, the land, and how they all smell and feel. It's a movie with weather, with aches, with breath. And - I'm not giving anything away to say - an awesome race scene!
