Had a chance to see this independent film and was really blown away by it. It's use of classic film noir tones mixed with stylized "Dogma 95" execution, makes the story fly off the screen. The hyper-reality that is created really is effective in consuming you into the storyline, and is reminiscent of Pi or early Danny Boyle with the style of Gangster No. 1. Very cool.
But that's not what makes this film an 8.
The story is amazing. Based in New York and keeping it very true to life, we are brought into the world of conspiracy through a lowly coffee shop owner named Thomas Flynn. Noticing some very strong comments during the credits (I wont give it away now) I went home to do a little research on Able Danger...
Only to find out that it was REAL.
The fact that I had no idea that this even existed blew me away, and now, looking back at the film, I am totally in awe. It will really make your head spin, and possibly, your blood boil.
If the pseudo-documentary root of the narrative doesn't hook you, the cast does an excellent job. All were well placed and cohesive, and Elina Lowenshon who you might remember from Shindler's List, plays the dark souled femme fatale to a T. Sexy, Seductive, and Sinister to boot. Amazingly intriguing and visually arresting, if you have a chance to see Able Danger in the festivals this year, do not pass it up. I'm sure you're going to hear more about it soon. That is... if "they" don't get to the director first...
