As so many of the other posts here on MTV Movies Blog today already did today, I'm first going to remind you that "New Moon" is now in theaters. See, it's kind of a big deal. And as you might imagine, we have vampires on the brain as a result.
Now even the most rabid Twilighter will tell you that Stephenie Meyer's series isn't for everyone. The phenomenon has definitely grown beyond the core audience of teenage girls, but there are still those who prefer to see their blood-suckers swimming in entrails and terrorizing and unknowing public. Well we've got you covered. Really it's Hollywood that has you covered; I'm just here to give you an update. In the coming year and beyond, there are quite a number of vampire movies coming out, catering to a variety of audiences. Two more "Twilight" movies sure, but what else? Hit the »

CBS films recently released this movie poster for the upcoming film “Extraordinary Measures” by director Tom Vaughan (What Happens in Vegas, Big Love) and starring Harrison Ford (Morning Glory, Indiana Jones) and Brendan Fraser (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Furry Vengeance). Synopsis: In the tradition of great inspirational dramas like the Academy Award nominated films “Erin Brockovich” and “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Extraordinary Measures” is inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family’s future to pursue a cure for his children’s life threatening disease. From his working class roots, John Crowley (Brendan Fraser) has finally begun to taste [...] »

On Sunday The Film Experience's Nathaniel Rogers brought me along to a dinner in honor of (500) Days of Summer, where both the cast and writers and director were on hand to schmooze with various writers and industry people who have the power to influence the movie's Oscar chances (let me be clear, I was just a guest-- no one thinks that of me). While Nathaniel and I didn't wind up eating alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt or anything, we did luck out and somehow sit down at a table with Amy Heckerling, the Clueless director who also recently directed Nathaniel's favorite actress, Michelle Pfeiffer, in the straight-to-dvd I Could Never Be Your Woman. While that movie didn't work out so well release-wise, Heckerling is already at work on her next project Vamps, which follows two female vampires looking for love in modern-day New York. Krysten Ritter, of What Happens in Vegas and »

Harrison Ford is, and always will be, the man. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that his career has been sputtering for some time now (Indiana Jones notwithstanding), and with his latest film Extraordinary Measures, it seems unlikely that he is going to reclaim the audience that has been slowly slipping away from him. The movie co-stars Brendan Fraser, and while I might have been interested if this was a buddy comedy (ha!), instead we have a serious drama about a father looking for someone to help him cure his children of a rare genetic disorder. Just look at that picture... even these guys can't believe they ended up in this movie. Extraordinary Measures is based on the true story of John Crowley as documented in the book The Cure: How a Father Raised $100 Million – And Bucked the Medical Establishment – In a Quest to Save His Children. The book was »

Ah Vegas! Home to Siegfried and Roy (the one munched on by a tiger), CSI, the World Series of Poker, legal prostitution, fabulous shows, the mob and lots and lots of gambling. After trying the family friendly route, over the last couple of years the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce has tried put back the reputation of Sin City back to more an adult atmosphere, focusing on the great shows but at the same time reminding adults that “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”
That is a great pitch line but when every one of my friends come home from Vegas, they go to the priest, the lawyer or the doctor (obviously some things do Not stay in Vegas.)
Las Vegas has also been the backdrop for many movies throughout the years; films of every genre have been shot there: Action, thriller, horror, comedy, drama. And when you start to think about it, »

Looking for some highbrow comedy? Keep on looking. If you loved the trailer for this movie, go watch it again. There, now you know the entire plot and you have seen all the funny parts of the film. I just saved you an hour and 47 minutes and at least ten bucks. You’re welcome.
It’s not that this is a terrible film, it just doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Couple’s Retreat tries to be the rom-com version of The Hangover, and fails. The laughs are there, but they are anemic at best and spread too thin over a far too long running time.
Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) are a tightly wound yuppie couple who pull their friends aside at a child’s birthday party and ask them to attend a quick presentation. Believing that they are going to see another power point presentation about testicular cancer prevention, »

CBS Films has sent over the first image and a first look featurette from director Tom Vaughan’s (”Starter for 10,” “What Happens in Vegas”) “Extraordinary Measures”. The film stars Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell and it’s inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family’s future to pursue a cure for his children’s life threatening disease. While the featurette is mostly the real John Crowley talking about his story, at the end Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser say a few words. While this kind of movie might not appeal to all of you, with the cast involved, I thought it was worth sharing. I’m hoping with Tom Vaughan directing it’ll be more than a movie of the week. Take a look at the image and featurette after the jump. “Extraordinary Measures »

The star and creator of NBC's new comedy talk about the first season
With the new fall TV season getting into full swing, there are few shows as anticipated as the new NBC comedy Community, which premieres on Thursday, September 17 at 9:30 Pm Et on NBC. The star of this new series, Joel McHale recently joined creator/executive producer Dan Harmon on a conference call to talk about this new series and here's what they had to say.
Joel, let me ask you, what was the appeal of this project for you?
Joel McHale: Oh, well, I read a lot of pilot scripts and always, you know, want to be in something that involves, you know, involved in something that's good and read - after reading Dan's script it was so head and shoulders above everything else that I was reading. And it had - I just, first and »

Nothing can spot Green Hornet now! Ok, there’s actually probably tons of things that could continue to interfere with this production going smoothly. At least it looks like Seth Rogen is keeping the weight off! One thing that is interesting is Nic Cage (who Variety reported was signed up …) is still in negotiating to be the villain.
Here’s the news release …
A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen (Superbad, Knocked Up) as the vigilante crime-fighter. Production is underway on the Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) helmed film, which is produced by Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend, The Fast and the Furious) and executive produced by Michael Grillo (The Accidental Tourist), Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express), Ori Marmur (Evan Almighty) and George W. In its latest issue, TV Guide Magazine previews a number of new fall shows.
For example, the publication speaks to Joseph Fiennes of FlashForward and gets this nugget, regardind spoiler security: he only gets a few pages of scripts at a time.
"It does feel a bit extreme," he says. "But I believe we've had some security leaks and unauthorized visitors."
Meanwhile, comedian Joel McHale told the magazine why he chose Community as his first starring sitcom role:
"The script for Community was the funniest thing I'd read in years. When I first read it, I was sitting on a plane next to a guy watching the movie What Happens in Vegas with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. I was laughing out loud, and he was getting pissed that I was laughing over his romantic comedy. And I was thinking, 'That's ironic.'"

It seems that Michel Gondry’s perpetually stalled Green Hornet film has finally started production. Several new names have been added and confirmed in the cast by the film’s press release. The first is Tom Wilkinson, from Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Michael Clayton. The second is David Harbour, of Quantum of Solace and Brokeback Mountain.
Also confirmed to be in the cast are Edward James Olmos and Nicolas Cage. The details of the press release, as revealed by Slashfilm, are as follows:

There are plenty of reasons for fans to be excited about the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet. For one, it's being helmed by Michel Gondry, who lent his visual panache to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep. So we can expect an eye-opener. Secondly, Seth Rogen has invested himself fully in the project: He will not only executive produce and write the script, but also star (in the title role, no less). But unfortunately, the big news as of late has been the movie's unstable release date. After being pushed back several times, the pic is now tentatively scheduled for a December 2010 release, much to the chagrin of rabid fans.
Not to worry, though, because Rogen, Gondry, and company are moving forward anyway. Screen Rant reports that Sony released an official statement saying that the movie is a go. We can thus assume that production will begin shortly, »

Over the weekend, news broke that the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet was being pushed back to allow for more post-production time. The five-month delay, which moves the film from its original Summer release to a holiday opening a week before Christmas, sure isn’t slowing down production of the film.
In recent weeks, we’ve heard about several casting decisions for the Seth Rogen-starrer including that of Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) and Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou taking over the role as Green Hornet’s side-kick, Kato. More recently, there’s been two more additions to the growing cast of talented and recognizable stars: Tom Wilkinson and David Harbour.
The official press release is as follows:
Culver City, Calif., September 2, 2009 - A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, »

Peter Chelsom, the British director whose eclectic CV includes movies as diverse as Hear My Song, Funny Bones, Serendipity and, erm, Hannah Montana: The Movie, has lined up his next project.Fresh from the commercial success of that Montana movie, the talented Chelsom has signed to direct Last Vegas, a comedy about four older gentlemen who decamp to Sin City for a stag weekend when one of their number decides to get hitched.Sounds familiar? Well, it’s The Hangover with colostomy bags. Very Bad Things with a free bag of Werther’s Originals. What Happens In Vegas with bus passes, and a faint smell of urine. But, while it may sound thuddingly unoriginal, Chelsom is a fine director, and we trust him to elevate the material. However, he’s also acutely aware of the comparisons that will be made, and welcomes them, even telling Variety that The Hangover’s »

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as »

Cameron Diaz is set to star in "The Green Hornet." The "What Happens In Vegas" actress is favorite to take on the lead role opposite Seth Rogen, who will play the titular masked vigilante and his alter ego Britt Reid.
Few other casting announcements have been made, and although Stephen Chow was originally lined dup to play sidekick Kato, his involvement is now in doubt after his deal to direct fell through.
Instead, Michel Gondry will helm the project, with a script written by Seth and his writing partner Evan Goldberg.
Seth has previously revealed he is so dedicated to the project he has shed over 30lbs in preparation for the role - and admits his diet and exercise regime has left him emotional.
