I saw a screening of 100 Tears at Chicago's Weekend of Horrors Convention, but it has taken me a while to sit down and write a review for it.
This movie is very impressive. I really cannot believe that it does not have distribution yet. Its much more original than most movies that are coming out nowadays, and it is one of the goriest things I have ever seen. There must be fifty deaths in the movie, ranging from quick decapitations to long drawn-out torture sequences.
The story involves a murderer who is killing people in Florida. Two tabloid reporters are trying to track him down, and eventually discover that the killer is a runaway dressed as a clown from a nearby circus. The cool thing is that this movie doesn't feel like a goofy "killer clown" movie at all. The killer could have been anyone. The fact that he never talks is really good, too.
The biggest problem with the movie is that it is rather slow. The stuff with Gurdy (the clown) is great, but the scenes with the reporters are not as much fun and sometimes they seem really long. They are there to basically explain the story of the killer as they uncover the clues.
The very ending of the movie feels a little rushed, too, but it is still fun. Everyone I saw it with cheered on the final shot, but agreed that is felt kind of abrupt when we were all talking about it later.
The acting ranges from mediocre to very good. Some people are obviously friends who showed up on set, but others are really impressive. The bartender with too much information is really good and Raine Brown (from Barricade, which I bought the year before in Chicago) is totally crazy.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes gore, but you should beware that it is kind of slow. I would suggest that you sit through the dialog and wait for the gore. Its really worth it!!!! Considering the budget (which looks really small), this is an amazing movie. I am looking forward to seeing it again on DVD when it finally comes out.
