This film was intended as a wide theatrical release; however, the film tested poorly and studio executives then considered going direct to DVD as a result. Ultimately the studio decided to give it a limited theatrical release in Texas (the home state of Jessica Simpson and Luke Wilson) in an attempt to generate interest and more accurately assess the film's box-office potential. After the film grossed only $1190.00 on eight screens, the studio decided not to expand the limited theatrical release any further.
The movie became a hit in Ukraine grossing more than $253,000 in the opening weekend.
Evie Thompson was cast in the role of Young Katie (Jessica) but the scenes were cut. She does, however, still appear in the beginning of the film in photo stills.
