Nick & his girlfriend Sammy go to drop acid at an old asylum, and while there, Sammy sits in a creepy chair of some kind that is suddenly triggered to pierce her body in lots of nasty places, and she disappears. Nick is then committed to a nut house, because he's suspected of murdering Sammy.
Several years later, Nick is released into the custody of one Dr. Willard, who, with a crew of students, decides to revisit the "scene of the crime". Dr. Willard actually believes Nick's story, but Dr. Willard also seems to have some inside information into the story of the asylum and the man who ran it back in the 50's, and what his real purpose was.
Of course, once there, people have to once again, sit in the chair, and they're pierced and then transported through some kind of portal into an alternate world, it seems, where something nasty lurks, something along the lines of "Alien" meets HP Lovecraft. Lots of tentacles and spew, you know.
But is any of this really what's happening? It IS what you're being shown, but is it reality, or is it Nick? And is Nick who he appears to be, or is Nick really completely insane? You'll have to watch to find out. Rest assured though, no one and no one's motives are what they seem to be.
Downright scary and pretty gory at times, and the closest thing I could possibly compare it to is maybe "Hellraiser". With all the crap masquerading as "horror" these days, it's nice to finally find something worthwhile among all the garbage. 7 out of 10.
