  • Jorma Taccone, Andy Samberg, and Akiva Schaffer made this movie between the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons of "Saturday Night Live" (1975). The team started rewriting Pam Brady's script in June 2006. Filming began on July 24th and wrapped on September 23rd. The team reported back to SNL on September 25th.

  • The role of Rod Kimble was originally intended for Will Ferrell.

  • The scene where Rod jumps over the 15 school buses featured over 1,200 extras.

  • The gag in which the syllable WH was enunciated was inspired by a skit from the album "Moment of Truth" by the hip-hop group Gang Starr (The Guru & DJ Premier).

  • Rod sings that he does his laundry without pants and is in his underwear. He then walks into a room, wearing pants. This blooper was entirely intentional and was planned by director Akiva Schaffer.

  • Akiva Schaffer's mother makes a cameo as an extra in two scenes. She's pelted with flyers by Richardson as she walks to her van, and later, she is shown sitting next to him during the screening of Rod's video.

  • The band called Gown that plays at Rod's final jump is actually ‘Queens of the Stone Age’.

  • Bill Hader's long hair in the movie was not a wig. Instead, he had bonded hair extensions put in, which he wore through the entire summer the movie was shot.

  • There are a few subtle references to professional wrestling in the movie, including two of the characters wearing WWE t-shirts. In one scene Rod wears a Hulk Hogan "Hulkamania" t-shirt, and in another Dave wears a "Stone Cold" Steve Austin t-shirt.

  • Seth Meyers, another SNL alum, stopped by the set one day and came up with the "2 legit to quit" scene.

  • Director Cameo: [Akiva Schaffer] Dave's friend Derek, who gives Dave the acid.

  • Director Akiva Schaffer makes a cameo appearance as Dave's friend Derek who gives Dave the acid.

  • In the commentary the guys say they heard of John Farnham because he had some songs on Rad (1986). They used the song You're the Voice by Farnham in the riot scene. "Rad" was a 1986 movie about a young man's journey to win a BMX race called Helltrack.
