If David Lynch chose to direct an episode of House, this would be it. "No Reason" is unsettling, illogical and frightening, and it only makes sense if viewed from House's subconscious. House is shot by the husband of one of his former patients, and what follows is part real/part hallucination -- or is it a total hallucination? Right after this incident, we are meant to believe that House, while in recovery, is helping solve the case of a man with a swollen tongue who's rapidly, spectacularly and horrifically deteriorating.
There are two things to consider here -- first of all House's relationship with his co-workers is radically different, and his placement into a bed next to his attacker is, of course, totally unrealistic. After a while it becomes clear that the husband acts not as an antagonist, bus as House's guilt talking directly to him. He's driving House, and the audience, crazy.
House's interaction with Chase, Cameron and Foreman is almost gentle, maybe a way of House showing regret of all the sarcasm and abuse he confronted them with. There's also an erotic moment between him and Cameron which has to be seen to be believed.
If the course of this show presented its anti-hero as a cold perfectionist, No Reason shows him for what he's really like deep inside --
-- human.
Can't wait for Season 3!!
