I'll be very interested to see where this goes. I know of no other plot device positing a low key apocalypse that may or may not happen, and the potential for character and plot line development--provided the writers are courageous enough--is enormous. The quirky, laid back style with the undertone of tension and foreboding carries over quiet well in the pilot, and the cast seems to consist of more than just the generic faces one sees in most network produced television.
Characterization also is strong. The initial pilot sets up a number of tensions within the community that can be developed, in addition to the natural disaster ubertheme. On the whole, this could turn out to be a really strong offering. If all the series does is create another interesting theme exploration like, say, Wonderfalls or Dead Like Me, it should serve as a decent vehicle for both the cast and the writers. Worth an occasional tune in to at the very least.
