Previously rumored by the folks at Latino Review to be the frontrunner, Robert Rodriguez has now confirmed to Ain’t it Cool that Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) will direct Predators. Neil Marshall (Doomsday) had also been rumored to be up for the job. While confirming the news to AICN, Rodriguez also offered up some story details for the reboot. The filmmaker, who’s producing and writing the screenplay, says Predators will involve “a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors”. The first Predator hit the screen in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Kevin Peter Hall. The story followed an elite team on a mission to rescue hostages from a guerrilla group in Central America. It was directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard). A sequel starring Danny Glover opened in 1990 followed by the mash-up flicks Alien vs. Predator and AvP: Requiem several years later. »

For weeks now speculation over who will be directing the next chapter in the Predator franchise has been a hot-button issue for horror fans. Finally with one mighty blow the guessing game has been laid to rest.
Tonight AICN caught up with producer Robert Rodriguez to get the official scoopage about what's going on with Predators, why he didn't direct, and if not him who will be the director?
The answer to that last bit? The Latino Review predicted Nimrod Antal (Vacancy). Seem like an odd choice? I don't think so. Truth be told I thought Vacancy was a competent and very stylized little thriller (that is until the crappy ending). At the very least we know that Antal can shoot in the dark without causing the audience to strain their eyes to see what was going on, something the horribly inept Strause brothers couldn't do with Avp: Requiem. Paramount, under its new leadership, paid seven figures upfront to acquire an action-comedy pitch called License to Steal (via Variety). The project is "loosely" based on a Salon.com article (read it here) about the high-end repossession business, in which agents travel all the world to reclaim "play toys" including private jets and speedboats. Shane Salerno (Armageddon, Shaft, Avp: Requiem) will write the screenplay. Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be producing, but not writing, License to Steal. The two most recently produced the comedy The Proposal as well as Eagle Eye late last year. Sound interesting? "We're thrilled to be working with Shane, a wildly inventive and talented creator. His passion was clear the minute he started telling his story. He has crafted a smart, lighthearted action movie that's fun and topical, with a ton of unexpected plot twists," Kurtzman and Orci said of Salerno and »

The folks over at Bloody Disgusting have posted a rumor that says Neil Marshall, director of Dog Soldiers, Descent and Doomsday, is in talks to helm Fox’s Predator reboot, Predators. Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios is producing the project and up until now it was believed that Rodriguez would also direct the film. That may still be the case, seeing as this is just a rumor, but Bd says the scoop is coming from a “100% reliable source”. They also stress that Marshall isn’t signed on, just in talks. In Hollywood, no one can hear you think. With a remake / reboot of Predator on its way, 20th Century Fox may now be setting its sights on Alien. (That "popping" sound you just heard emanates from the burst blood vessels of a million fans.) An anonymous source told Bloody Disgusting that Fox is developing a remake of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic. Another source says that the studio "is possibly working on an origins story, as opposed to a straight-up remake."
Considering how both the Alien and Predator franchises have been devalued, thanks to the low quality of Avp: Alien vs. Predator and Avp: Requiem, as well as Fox's recent, poor track record with action movies, my expectations are below zero. With Robert Rodriguez on board as producer and a July 2010 release date set, a new Predator is coming whether we want it or not. As a strictly business decision, it »

The story followed an elite team on a mission to rescue hostages from a guerrilla group in Central America. John McTiernan (Die Hard) directed. A sequel starring Danny Glover opened in 1990 followed by the mash-up flicks Alien vs. Predator and AvP: Requiem several years later. While the original only featured one Predator, the reboot will up the number of the ass-kicking species. According to the folks over at IESB, Rodriguez made the announcement yesterday during the seining of Hb 873, the long-awaited reform of the Texas film incentive program. At the same event Rodriguez also confirmed his upcoming slate, »
