This show turns Star Trek on top of its head a band of hippies, led by their "space" guru, take over the Enterprise. They bring out the "square" uptight authoritarian in Capt. Kirk and the other high ranking officers while the rest of the ship's crew is gradually seduced by their free spirit attitude and music. Ironically, Spock empathizes the most with ideals of the counter culture rebels and his participation in the "shin dig" concert performance is rib-crackin' hilarious. With Hollywood's stereotypical portrayal of hippies with their "beatific" smiles, bare feet, and corny psychedelic swirl clothing, it's no wonder this episode is probably the most memorable and definitely entertaining.
