The opening clip of "Out Of Gas" started with everyone playing poker in the mess tent. Colonel Potter comes inside and tells them the surgery session will be a test of endurance and agility. The first wave would start within two hours. The second wave started with an obvious counteroffensive upon the conclusion of the first wave in about twelve hours. Major Houlihan tells Corporal Klinger to look for the two cases of sodium pentathol for surgery. He did so despite Sergeant Zale making a deal with the 121st unit.

Colonel Potter and Major Houilhan had to supply the pentathol to patients with serious injuries in surgery. They used ether for the more simpler cases on the patients in surgery. Corporal O'Reilly talked to the other units of making arrangements of obtaining pentathol -- without any success. After no success, First Lieutenant Mulcahy started making deals with the black market ... much to Colonel Potter's disapproval ... in order to obtain the sodium pentathol.

Major Winchester travels along with Father Mulcahy. He did away with his nap in order to trade the French wine for the (five boxes of) pentathol. Both Winchester and Mulcahy came back to the site in trading the jeep for the truck (containing the medicine) -- thus returning back to the 4077th. Father Mulcahy ended up being the hero for sacrificing the jeep for the truck. Major Winchester ended up receiving a scolding for leaving camp. The end result: A Fat 16!!
