Quotes:
Dean:
So, how are you liking Moby Dick?
Rory:
Oh, it's really good.
Dean:
Yeah?
Rory:
Yeah, it's my first Melville.
Dean:
Cool.
Rory:
I mean, I know it's kind of cliché to pick Moby Dick as your first Melville but... Hey, how did you know I was reading Moby Dick?
Dean:
Uh, well, I've been watching you.
Rory:
Watching me?
Dean:
I mean, not in a creepy, like, "I'm watching you" sort of way. I just - I've noticed you.
Rory:
Me?

when i first saw the pilot episode, it was when i finally bought season one on DVD. because i had seen several seasons and had followed the show closely for years, it was quite confusing. see, all the sets are different from the rest of the episodes. this has a simple explanation. when they first shot the episode, they shot it in canada, in a small town, which is why none of the sets are the same. after shooting the pilot, they quickly moved to the WB studios in LA where they have been ever since. The William's Hardware sign was actually a fluke they had to incorporate into the show, as they used an old hardware store as Luke's Diner in the pilot, and couldn't remove the sign. for a series opener, back in 2000, i believe it was a pretty good one. It showed a lot about each character, pulled up the background on Lorelai and her parents and her having rory at sixteen, it introduced Luke, who would soon become known for his massive crush on Lorelai, very quickly and well, showing that he cared for them very much, and it introduced Lorelai's strong will, showing how she was now a manager of an Inn, and how she would do anything for her daughter, including begging her parents for money for rory's schooling.
