Factual errors: When Faith is torturing Wesley, Angel comes crashing through the door. He was never invited in and the man who owned the apartment was in the hospital, not dead. Angel never went to the hospital, Cordilia just told him where the apartment was. moreQuotes:

I can not say enough about the dramatic writing and directing ability of Jim Kouf in the "Five by Five" Angel Episode. It was a tremendous dramatic story, that lets one see the humanity of the evil Faith Lehane. Most of the Angel shows are gimmick filled. When I say gimmick filled, I mean, they have things like, why is Angel acting so sensitive or what are these people hiding. The same was true in this show. The title probably should have been the special gimmick. The title very intelligently clues one into the ending, because the meaning of the title (I read your signal loud and clear) ties into why Angel does what he does. However, when one discovers the tie in from the Title to the super dramatic ending, it does not look like a gimmick.
I was falling a sleep one night a few years ago, when this episode of Angel came on. About 4/5 of the way through, I suddenly heard Eliza Dushku shout, "You can't take me! No one can take me!" I realized, I never heard that kind of diologue in any TV show, except WWE wrestling. I woke up and started to sit on the edge of my seat. Jim Kouf did not let me down and Eliza gave the performance of a lifetime and the best performance from anyone from Buffy or Angel. I went out and bought the Angel first season DVD. I have watched this episode and especially the last 15 minutes of this episode over 200 hundred times and never get tired of it. It is always a powerful dramatic experience, despite the fact that I know the ending so well.
