Trivia:
Italy won their fourth World Cup title, following victories in 1934, 1938 and 1982. Brazil are the only country to have won the competition five times. This was only the second World Cup final to be decided by a penalty shoot out. The Squadra Azzurra have conceded only two goals during Germany 2006. They have now equalled France's record set in 1998, for least goals conceded by World Cup finalists. moreFAQ

It's mad, it's crazy...and it can only mean one thing - it's the World Cup. I know I'm a little late in posting this here, but then given the chance to sort of like relive the moment, I have to.
I grew up with a football-crazy father (and he only supports England, for as long as I remember), and so it wasn't difficult to get all hyped up for all that football action from Germany. The time when the family can go all noisy, leaving my mother shaking her head literally. The time I can just go so emotional.
Apart from all that excitement, the sorrow, the referee decisions which were questionable (well, some are), I learned many more things about the host nation itself beyond the pitch. Germany is one very united country (considering the country only reunited once again after the Berlin Wall incident) and it showed whenever its national squad are playing. All because one influential coach who dares to make a difference to the squad. You don't get to see this all the time! I just can't help but love the country and its squad at the same time.
Germany's sensitive history was indeed, once part of my history textbook syllabus, and it made me understand even more why the Germans just want to leave all that behind. And I don't blame the Germans for being so proud of their country though.
Those past German stereotypes? I had leave it all behind for good since.
