the worst sci-fi flick in years, it's so bad it's not even laughable, 7 July 2007
1/10
Author: TheUnknown837-1 from United States

There are a lot of bad movies that are shown on the Sci-fi Channel. A lot of low-budget flicks that aren't particularly made to be entertaining or good. And there are a lot of ones that are so bad they are painful to look at. Films such as "Python" and "Alligator 2" come and go all the time.

But "Gryphon" is perhaps THE worst of these sci-fi flicks that it has been my misfortune to come upon in years. The story, the special effects, the dialogue, the acting, everything is absolutely horrendous. Once again, we have to deal with a monster that is created through incredibly poor computer graphics. Only this time, it's unbelievably bad. The graphics used on the gryphon itself are the worst I've ever seen. The monster looks pathetic on the greatest level and it has these widely opened, round eyes that do not enhance its appearance at all. And the way it moves in a very choppy manner does not make us suspend disbelief, it just enhances our disbelief of this lame excuse for a monster. And here's another thing. There's suppose to be this special hammer that is the only thing capable of killing a gryphon. And when I saw it, I said "yeah, them plastic hammers, they always were real good monster-slaying medieval weapons".

Dialogue used in "Gryphon" wasn't all that great either. Such as for instance, when the gryphon kills somebody, a princess of the deceased's kingdom says "that wizard will pay for the blood of our kin" in a manner that just makes us absolutely become annoyed with this character. And the sorcerer talks with ridiculous lines like "I suppose I should be shaking in my shoes" and "I was hoping that once I rule all, you will become my bride". Those may not be be his exact lines word-for-word, but that's still how bad the dialogue was.

"Gryphon" is a sad story. It's bad even for a low-budget sci-fi flick. Literally everything in it is terrible. Maybe the acting wasn't so bad for SOME of the characters, but it was still not enough to enhance the film. There was no creativity, not even any ATTEMPTED creativity like we see in most sci-fi flicks. Bottom line, it's a catastrophe and I don't plan on seeing it again.
