Josh Hutcherson spoke to MTV about his latest acting gig, the remake of 1984's Red Dawn. Hutcherson claims they "blew up all of downtown Detroit last week."
We shot a scene where where we blew the face off this giant building. It was a giant, probably 200-foot high mushroom cloud of flames engulfing downtown Detroit! That was really cool.
The original Red Dawn was also violent, despite having a young cast including Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, and Lea Thompson. Hutcherson plays a character "based on C. Thomas Howell's character, Robert" that is "sort of a tech guy" that, by the end of the movie, becomes "a total warrior, drinking blood from the animals and going crazy." Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, and Isabel Lucas round out the cast.
The experience is clearly one that Hutcherson is enjoying.
Everybody's loving it and loving the new story line. We've changed up quite a bit of stuff. »

Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired by Paramount Pictures to rewrite C.O.D., an action-thriller that currently doesn't have a director attached to it. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter (because that's what they do, report on stuff), C.O.D. is about a NYC bike courier who has to deliver three live bombs or else another will go off and take out his family. Why can't terrorists just pay bike couriers like everyone else? I guess that's part of what makes them bad guys.
DreamWorks bought the C.O.D. script in March 2008. When Dw split from Paramount, one of the projects that Paramount got custody of was C.O.D. The original script was written by Lars Jacobson. Barry Josephson (Bones, Aliens in the Attic) and former movie executive assistant Neal Flaherty are producing.
Ellsworth got his screenwriting career off to a start with a produced episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That was followed »

Red Eye and Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired to rewrite C.O.D. (ie Cash On Delivery, non-acronym-users), the thriller about a New York City bike messenger forced to deliver bombs to three locations lest one of those be locations be his family home! (Cue dramatic drum-roll, look of horror on Our Hero's face)The catch in this film is that an entire nation is looking for him, as well as the authorities, to stop these bombs getting through. And probably that his lycra shorts are giving him a wedgie*.We kid, of course; we're just trying to get a handle on the idea of an action hero with a cycling helmet (and he better be wearing a helmet, or we're going to have to write a strongly worded letter to Hollywood about encouraging dangerous cycling). The script was originally written by Lars Jacobson and sold in 2008, but the rewrite suggests that someone, »

Variety is reporting that Chris Pine a.k.a the new Captain Kirk, and director D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) are in talks for the fact-based financial drama, The Art of Making Money. Paramount has put plans in place to fast-track the production for an early 2010 start having one of the leading men-of-the-moment and a successful action/thriller director attached will certainly boost the movie.
Paramount acquired The Art of Making Money based on a Rolling Stone article from 2005 by Jason Kersten, who himself turned it into a book called The Art of Making Money: The Story of a Master Counterfeiter, published last summer. The script is written by Frank Baldwin, and the film will be produced by Brian Robbins, Sharla Sumpter and Brad Weston. If the two officially sign onto the project, Caruso will, of course, direct and Pine will play, “Art Williams, the alias for a Chicago man »

Today is a big news day for the new Captain Kirk, Chris Pine. After this morning’s report that Pine was in talks with Paramount to star in The Art of Making Money with Disturbia director D.J. Caruso, now it seems that Paramount also wants to reel the rising star with the role of Jack Ryan in a series reboot.
The CIA analyst with a penchant for solving tricky situation has a long history in Tom Clancy books and on screen, where he’s been played by Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck. Ryan Gosling was once a name being tossed about for a reboot of the series that ended after Affleck’s mediocre The Sum of All Fears, but Pine seems like a perfect candidate considering the success of Star Trek.
It’s unknown whether or not Pine will return for Star Trek 2 before or after the untitled Jack Ryan reboot, »

Paramount Pictures is taking the first steps in moving forward with production of their newest drama, The Art of Making Money, by wooing actor Chris Pine and director D.J. Caruso to be involved with the project.
If negotiations go as Paramount would like, Pine, who audiences will remember from his recent portrayal as James T. Kirk in Star Trek, will be cast as the film’s lead. Pine would be playing the role of Art Williams, the alias of a former Chicago petty thief who made his way up through the ranks of the criminal world to become a master counterfeiter.
Paramount also hopes to have Caruso, who most recently directed Disturbia and Eagle Eye, take on directing duties for the film. If Caruso agrees to be part of The Art of Making Money, he will be joining producers Brian Robbins, Sharla Sumpter and Brad Weston in making the movie, »

After paying $2 million dollars for an untitled pitch, Paramount certainly knows the art of spending money, but now they'll be getting into The Art of Making Money as Variety reports the studio is fast-tracking the new fact-based drama for production early next year. D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) will direct Chris Pine (Star Trek) in the leading role of "Art Williams, the alias for a Chicago man who rose from petty theft to become a master counterfeiter." Chris "Tiberius" Pine and director D.J. Caruso are set to team up to learn The Art of Making Money, with the sometime-Captain Kirk set to star as counterfeiter Art Williams.Williams was schooled in making fake money by his stepfather, and became the first counterfeiter to crack the supposedly-unfakeable 1996 Us currency. By keeping his operation slow and steady, and distributing his notes in dribs and drabs as he travelled cross-country, Williams remained at large for nearly a decade, printing about $10 million during that time. His bills were so good that they once passed right under the nose of an FBI agent, while on another occasion an illegal search and seizure allowed him to escape conviction despite holding $6,000 in fakes at the time. All in all, sounds like a job for someone who can play both intense and cocky - hey, like Chris Pine! You can never go wrong making a movie about counterfeiters or gangsters. They could make a hundred of these movies a year and studios would still make money. The reason is simple: people love to watch others reap financial rewards through illegitimate means as long as the criminals don’t take the money directly from average, good-hearted Americans.
Making the latest entry in the popular counterfeiter/gangster subgenre, Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) and director D.J. Caruso (”Eagle Eye”, “Disturbia”) are in negotiations with Paramount Pictures to make “The Art of Making Money” next year. The movie would be based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article by Jason Kersten, who turned his reporting into the book “The Art of Making Money: The Story of a Master Counterfeiter”. More after the jump:
While I love movies that take place in the criminal underworld, another reason to get excited for this project is the script by Frank Baldwin. »

Variety's reporting Chris Pine (hot off his starring role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek) and director D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) are in negotiations to join The Art of Making Money. Pine, who's been very picky about which projects he takes on since scoring success as the new Kirk, is currently filming Unstoppable, the action drama that hit a few speedbumps before heading into production. Caruso's linked to a few projects (Y: The Last Man, The Defenders, Dead Space), none of which are real close to getting underway.
According to Variety, Paramount's looking to get The Art of Making Money into production as soon as early next year.
