Remakes fall into two categories, "Wow" and "Why did they bother". Sadly, the "Wow"s are few and far between.
For every Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead or David Cronenberg's The Fly, there's five Gus Van Sant's Psycho. Breck Eisner's The Crazies clearly falls into the "Wow" category. Romero original even as it goes off in it's own direction.
David (Timothy Olyphant) is the Sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a small midwestern town. Judy, his doctor wife (Radha Mitchell), is pregnant and everything seems idyllic until a townsperson carries a loaded shotgun to a little league game. From that point on, the two realize the locals of their beloved little town are going insane. Government help is Not helpful, as fighter planes and gun-toting »

Bloody-Disgusting learned this afternoon that Breck Eisner - who is currently hard at work on Overture Films' remake of The Crazies - will in fact not be directing The Creature From The Black Lagoon remake for Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment. He was rumored to be exiting the project back in December, but it was quickly shot down. We have confirmed with various sources that it is now official and that Uni and Strike are now actively hunting a new director. Our very own Eric Walkuski spoke to director Breck Eisner and managed to squeeze a little info out of the man about his developing Flash Gordon and The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Here are a couple cliff-notes on Flash: "I love them both, they're both big movies. I think I will push both of them forward at full pedal and hope one of them goes first." On the status of Flash Gordon: "We broke story with the writers [Matt] Sazama and [Burk] Sharpless for the last five or six... »

Well have a full report from that set later this week, but today we got an update on the Creature From The Black Lagoon remake that Eisner is directing from a script by Gary Ross. After The Crazies, Creature is the most likely next project for Eisner, although Universal hasnt given it the official green light just yet. I dont know, Eisner told press. We turned in another script. I think they are probably going to see how Wolf Man does and then well probably know from there. I havent really been on top of it for a month, he added. Ive been in Georgia making [The Crazies]. But Im hoping. Weve been on it for two years. Were all very excited. We came so close to going..." »
