‘Se7en’ Writer and Director Reunite For ‘Peter Proud’

9 November 2009 10:53 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Back in 1995, director David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (The Wolfman) collaborated on what is now touted as a “crime classic” and “a blueprint for modern serial killer movies.” That movie was Se7en, and I totally agree with all the praise that’s been heaped upon it (it recently featured in our “Horror Plus” series).

Now, 14 years later, Fincher and Walker are going to be collaborating once more, this time on an adaptation of the novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud for Columbia. THR’s Heat Vision Blog reports the news of their involvement, along with producer Michael De Luca (Blade, Ghost Rider). The author of the book, Max Ehrlich, adapted it into a movie in 1975 of the same name, so I guess in a way this movie is a remake by Fincher (there’s that “remake or new adaptation” question again). According to THR:

A Christmas Carol (review)

6 November 2009 12:51 PM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

There’s something about Jim Carrey that I find highly intriguing, and it’s the something that’s very dark and bleak in him. It’s not a quality of his that often gets played to -- in fact, I first noticed this about him in the otherwise terrible psychological thriller The Number 23, a few years back, in which he portrayed a man descending into insanity, because it seemed as if the film was terrified of unleashing that aspect of Carrey. It struck me then that almost everything we’ve ever seen Carrey do -- comedy and drama alike -- has been terrified of what looks to me like rage in him, and so it gets corralled into a grinning, hyper mania that is somehow perceived as “safe” because it’s “just” “funny.” I’d love to see what Carrey would do with the Joker for a director who »

A Christmas Carol - Movie Review

6 November 2009 10:28 AM, PST | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Jim Carrey plays eight roles in this stupendously visual reworking of Charles Dickens. iconic holiday tale; he delivers each character in unique ways, through accent, facial expression, and carriage. Each character rendering is unique, capturing him in different life stages, respectful of Carrey.s superhuman transformative powers. Carrey plays the gamut of emotions, and every one works because he is a stone cold genius. But our boy needs a hit about now following a long underwhelming run that includes The Number 23 and Yes Man. While A Christmas Carol will draw plenty of holiday traffic, and will enter the Christmas classic canon just because . it.s not the greatest offering from Disney. The artwork is nothing short of stupendous, »

The Story of Anvil and Not Quite Hollywood, plus Blu-ray releases for Audition, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and some holiday classics including A Charlie Brown Christmas. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Platinum Edition) I just posted my review of this one (read it here) and I tried to keep it as short as possible all while managing to gush all over it. Seriously, this baby is packed with goodies and the film simply looks spectacular as Walt Disney's first feature length animated film comes to life in high definition. Snow White is 72-years-old and boy does it age well.

I reviewed the two-disc edition (or three-disc if you count the included DVD version of the film), but there are a ton of additional versions to buy including the collector's pack featured in the image to the left and then one that comes with a bunch of stuffed toys. Oh, and if you buy it at Amazon you can enter the promotional code Snowhite and »

tMF Featured Trailer: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief!

19 July 2009 8:21 AM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

(Note to self: Should keep an eye on young actor Logan Lerman!) I've watched Logan acting alongside Christian Bale in 3:10 to Yuma and man, he can act! But even before that notable role, I remember him as Bobby McCallister in Jack and Bobby - he was simply awesome! I think this guy knows how to make the transition from television to the big screen.

More on Logan: Logan Lerman decided that he wanted to be an actor at the age of two. He appeared in two commercials, and made his film debut in 2000's The Patriot. Lerman's role in the 2003 made-for-television film, A Painted House, won him a Young Artist Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Young Actor" in a television production.

Continuing his feature film work, Lerman appeared in Hoot, The Number 23, and 3:10 to Yuma. Later this year, Lerman will appear in the dystopian science-fiction film Gamer. »

Madsen's invention

6 July 2009 6:16 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Virginia Madsen's career never took off quite the way many thought it would after her Oscar-nominated performance in Sideways, even though she's had some prime roles in films like The Number 23? The Haunting In Conneticut? Yikes. Hopefully the folks behind the upcoming indie comedy Father Of Invention will put her obvious talents to good use. The Trent Cooper-directed film stars Kevin Spacey as a once humble inventor who scores big and turns into an egomaniacal billionaire who loses it all... »

The release date for that 70th Anniversary DVD and Blu-ray edition of The Wizard of Oz has been announced. The Seventh Seal and Bergman Island (Criterion Collection) I just reviewed the Blu-ray edition of this release and it is an absolute must buy. Not only do you get one of the greatest films I have ever seen in an absolutely stellar presentation, but you also get the fantastic 83-minute documentary Bergman Island. Danny Huston to Play Poseidon in Clash of the Titans

29 April 2009 12:40 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Although principal photography started earlier this week, there are still more casting announcements to be made. The latest to join Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans remake is actor Danny Huston, who can be seen as William Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine this weekend. Huston has previously appeared in 21 Grams, The Aviator, Marie Antoinette, Children of Men, The Number 23, and 30 Days of Night as well. In the original film, Poseidon was played by Jack Gwillim. I always remember him as the rather unexciting god who just swam around in slow motion underwater. I hope Hudson brings some more thunder this time. In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades, vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to »

The Number 23 Movie Review

The first thing I thought about after watching JIm Carrey's "The Number 23" was about Ocd (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), a mental illness that effects literally millions of people every day and boy, does this character have it in this movie (the obsession of the number 23). One day, his girlfriend buys a book entitled "The Number 23" for his birthday and after having read a few chapters of the book, Carrey begins to realize that many events in the book and the number 23 seem to coincide with whats going on in his own life. Carrey plays a dog catcher and is bent set on catching a particular... »

Virginia Madsen to produce ski jumper documentary

9 April 2009 2:59 PM, PDT | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

Virginia Madsen has done a couple of crappy projects (including her latest "The Haunting in Connecticut"), but I forgive her. She still rocks and I particularly love her in "Sideways."

Anyway, according to Variety, Madsen is set to produce "Fighting Gravity," a documentary about 15 athletes trying to get the International Olympic Committee to allow women ski jumpers to compete in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The fact alone the Ioc banned women from taking part in the sport is just stupid, of course, and I can only hope somebody gets to slam some sense into these people's heads. Time to realize we are indeed living in the 21st century.

Madsen, whose recent credits include "The Number 23" and "The Astronaut Farmer," will also soon appear in "Amelia." "Fighting Gravity" is already in production, by the way. »
