Nikki Kruex ('Dead Reckoning', 'The Story of Annie Kellister')

Interview by Nic Brown

What can you say about someone whose list of interests include horror movies, anime, video games, guns and bows, serial killers, and kung fu movies? Well if you’re talking about Nikki Kruex, you can say that you’re just scratching the surface of this actress, model, musician, paranormal investigator and artistic Jill-of-all-trades...

In fact if you visit her website, www.nikkihomicidek.ws, you’ll find a page for just about every aspect of the entertainment industry. Somehow Nikki still manages to find time for fun and when she does you may find her doing anything from shooting a crossbow to playing Grand Theft Auto. Of course with multiple film projects, a new album coming out soon and a paranormal investigation show just waiting to take off, you won’t find her relaxing much. Fortunately, Nic Brown managed to pin down this creative tornado long enough »

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Says Inception is Nolan’s “Baby”

17 hours ago | Nolan Fans | See recent Nolan Fans news »

Our buddies over at Cinematical recently got to talk with Joseph Gordon-Levitt about his new movie, Uncertainty. And like the good journalists that they are, they poked him about his role in Inception. Here’s what they got out of him:

Cinematical: [Inception] looks amazing. What is your character Arthur about?

I think it looks amazing too. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. I can’t wait to talk to you about it, too, but Chris is one of my favorite artists alive today, and it’s important to him — and this project, Inception, is really his baby, it’s something he wrote all by himself, and having done The Dark Knight, which is, I think, one of the great movies of the decade, he now has the liberty to do whatever he wants, whatever he can think of, and this is what he’s doing. »

Comic book writer/artist Al Davison on what was wrong with The Dark Knight, Superman Returns and Watchmen

13 November 2009 3:31 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

We're seeing more and more comic books and graphic novels being adapted for the big screen and, even with varied results at the box office, the trend shows no sign of stopping.

This is largely because established titles come with a devoted fanbase while newer publications are akin to film storyboards that give studios a clear visual idea of the project.

Only recently I have twice reported on a number of comics that are being picked up by film bosses, and you can see those round-ups here and here.

I talked about the craze to comic book writer and artist Al Davison, who runs The Astral Gypsy graphic novels shop and art studio in the Canal Basin here in Coventry.

Al's been writing and drawing comics for 25 years. He is working on the Doctor Who comic (as seen in the image pictured right), which was launched in July, and recently »

Michael Caine Says Batman 3 Might Not Happen

13 November 2009 1:51 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Batman's faithful butler, Alfred, has dropped bad news ... again.

Batman fans everywhere have been furiously blogging and discussing the twists and turns in the will-they-or-won't-they debate over a third installment of Christopher Nolan's revamped Batman franchise. Early on it was announced that, although lead actor Christian Bale was contractually obligated to appear in Batman 3, Nolan had no such obligation and might decide not to direct another one.

Screenwriter David S. Goyer gave fans some hope when he said that he believed Nolan would return if he could "find the story that he's happy with." Then, Gary Oldman got everyone excited when he announced that filming would begin in 2010, only to recant his statement a couple days later.

Actor Cillian Murphy, who played The Scarecrow in the first two films, is hopeful that another film will be made, and Aaron Eckhart, said that he "would do anything" Nolan asked of him, »

South Park Rips on Avatar

13 November 2009 11:07 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

By now I would hope most of you have seen the latest episode of South Park, entitled “Dances With Smurfs” (if not, you need to go Here right away and do so!). The episode follows in the show’s great tradition of intelligent inappropriateness, this time lampooning such things as school shootings (really pushing it there), the current political landscape (hilarious) and, in a twist-turn in the final 1/3, James Cameron’s upcoming sci-fi epic, Avatar.

So what do all those random things have in common? Only the minds behind South Park know for sure…

[Spoiler Alert!!! Watch The Episode Before You Read This!!!]

What basically happens is this: Cartman uses his manipulative talents to take over the school announcements job and quickly becomes a Glenn Beck clone, tearing into class president Wendy for being a “Smurf hater” who is trying to turn the school into a “socialist regime” (Beck himself thought the lampooning was pretty funny, Btw). Dark Knight Producer Chuck Roven Working on The Looking Glass Wars?

13 November 2009 10:46 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Frank Beddor has been in the news this week. First there was that awful, awful premise for Ridley Scott's movie version of Monopoly that Beddor wrote and explained to the La Times. Now he's taken to television to promote his latest book, and while there mentioned that Chuck Roven, one of the producers on The Dark Knight, is working on an adaptation of Beddor's novel series The Looking Glass Wars. I haven't read the books, perhaps they're wonderful, but the revamped approach to Alice in Wonderland sounds just as terrible as the Monopoly pitch. When asked about a film version of The Looking Glass Wars, what Beddor specifically said today on Good Morning America, as related by ComingSoon, was: I am working with the producer of 'The Dark Knight' Chuck Roven, so we're putting it together, and it's pretty exciting to think about it as a movie. »

Producer Charles Roven Developing The Looking Glass Wars Movie

13 November 2009 8:43 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

It's always fun to take an established story and manipulate the so-called "happily ever after" ending. Steven Spielberg making Peter Pan grow up with Hook, or Hansel and Gretel becoming professional witch hunters are just a couple of fine examples. Now it looks like The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is set to play in the world of Wonderland as this morning on Good Morning America (via ComingSoon) author Frank Beddor announced that he has been working with Roven to adapt his series of novels collectively known as The Looking Glass Wars, which have a much different take on the classic Alice in Wonderland story. In this rather interesting take on that story, it claims that Leiws Caroll's two preceding books (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass) were nothing but lies and that this is the true story. Beddor's version features twists on the original story, such »

What Can Zatanna's 'Smallville' Episode Teach Us About 'Justice League' & 'The Avengers' Movie Team-Ups?

13 November 2009 6:16 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Can Jon Favreau's reality-based "Iron Man" share the same universe as Kenneth Branagh's fantasy-focused "Thor"? What about the space-faring "Green Lantern" film and Christopher Nolan's gritty take on Batman?

These are valid concerns both for fans and movie executives as Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment plan live-action adaptations of "The Avengers" and "Justice League," respectively.

While they're difficult questions to tackle, some hint at the answers could lie in an installment of the television series "Smallville" (titled "Hex") which debuted last season. In "Hex," the powerful magician Zatanna interacts not only with the super-powerful Clark Kent, but also with Green Arrow, a street-level vigilante with no superpowers to speak of.

MTV News spoke with "Hex" writer Bryan Q. Miller (the new writer of DC's "Batgirl" series) to get his take on how to integrate magically-gifted characters into a live-action comic book world.

'Batman 3' May Never Happen

12 November 2009 6:52 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Despite a good reception for "The Dark Knight", it appears that Warner Bros. Pictures has not had any plan about making the sequel. Recently, one of the "Batman" stars, Michael Caine, told British magazine Shortlist that he doubted the studio will ever make "Batman 3".

"I don't know if they are ever going to make another 'Batman'," Caine said. Even if there will be the third film, the depicter of butler Alfred Pennyworth claimed it will not be happening soon, as he stated, "If they do it won't be for quite a while." However, he added, "As for the future... if they ever make another 'Batman' I will be in, I will be the butler..."

Talks of a follow-up to "The Dark Knight" have been circulating around since the movie blew up in the box office and collected awards. Recently, it was reported that the next installment of the "Batman" film »

'Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2': You're No 'Dark Knight'!

12 November 2009 3:32 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 put up some killer numbers when it went on sale Tuesday: Activision announced earlier today that it sold 4.7 million copies in North America and the U.K., which translated into a cool $310 million at the cash registers. In the videogame world, these are historic numbers -- Grand Theft Auto IV was the previous one-day sales record holder with 3.6 million sold in May 2008. But as far as Cod: MW2 being the Biggest Entertainment Event in History, let’s not get too crazy here. Yes, $310 million is a lot more than the $67 million (throw in another few million dollars for the U. »

Torrent Downloading May Prevent Zombieland 2, Says Screenwriter

12 November 2009 2:56 AM, PST | HugAZombie | See recent HugAZombie news »

Zombieland co-screenwriter Rhett Reese Tweeted on Tuesday that the amount of torrent file downloading of the movie could prevent a sequel.

Zombieland currently the most pirated movie on bit torrent. Over one million downloads and counting.

Beyond depressing. This greatly affects the likelihood of a Zombieland 2.

Reese even hit a few fellow Twits who made their pirated viewing public with this:

You realize we do what we do for money, right? Same as you.

While we are cautious over anything that would stop a Zombieland sequel, Reese may be a little reactionary here. As TorrentFreak points out, The Dark Knight was the biggest download of 2008, and Warner Bros. can't wait to make a sequl for that. Furthermore, Zombieland grossed more than $60.8 million in just 17 days, higher than 2004's Dawn of the Dead, which grossed $59 million domestically and, ultimately, $102 million worldwide. Zombieland stands currently at $83 million worldwide, needing to make up »

Black Dynamite Kicks It With Some Midnight Shows

Listen up, all you jive turkeys. There's been too much control given to 'The Man' in this country. And we need a hero. We need someone with soul and badassery, someone who can reign down terror on the forces of evil and bring the heat to the ladies. We need Black Dynamite. Black Dynamite, directed by Scott Sanders and starring Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight), follows the story of the meanest, baddest crime fighting man ever to hit the streets. And now he's coming to your town -- that is, if you live in any of the following towns. They are setting up a series of midnight openings in several cities, including the former home of Fsr, Columbus, Ohio. For those who are uncool enough to have no idea what Black Dynamite is, I would suggest that you read my Sundance review and/or check out the trailer below. Further »

Interview: The Future of Voltron - Jeremy Corray

11 November 2009 12:19 PM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

With budgets on the rise and total investments for studio pictures creeping toward the half a billion dollar mark, Hollywood needs a sure thing. So we hear terms like, “built-in audience” or “high-concept” or “ancillary revenues.” The summer movie schedule becomes a long list of sequels, prequels and remakes in the studios’ quest to recoup their investments. The success of the Transformer franchise has them scrambling. Cartoons from the 80’s are now the hot property. The studios are scouring the countryside for the next Transformers. I’m hearing names that I haven’t heard since I was eight, He-man, Thundercats, Go-Bots, Silverhawks and the Mighty Orbots. But one of the most popular cartoons from the 80’s is still out there, Voltron.

I remember the years 1984-1986 fondly as “the Voltron years.” I lived, breathed, ate and slept Voltron. I believe I was 10 when I discovered the company that owns Voltron, »
