Reitman “100% Attached” To Direct Ghostbusters 3

9 October 2009 9:55 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Our friends over at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that they have “confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt” that Ivan Reitman is attached to direct Ghostbusters 3. Now before all you “ghost heads” get excited about Reitman returning, there’s something else you should know, “he hasn’t decided whether or not he really wants to direct [it], yet.”

Reitman attached, but not committing to direct is not that surprising. Over the past 10 years, Reitman has only directed 2 films (Evolution & My Super Ex-Girlfriend), but since he’s one of the five members in the “infamous” Ghostbusters rights holders agreement (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman & Columbia Pictures (Sony) all have to sign off on anything Ghostbusters before it can happen), attaching himself to the project without deciding to direct could be more to prevent any delays in development due to the studio wanting a director attached to the project.

Ghostbusters 3 Rumor: Will Ivan Reitman Rediscover His Inner Ghostbuster?

9 October 2009 7:39 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

According to Bloody Disgusting, Ivan Reitman has the opportunity to direct Ghostbusters 3 but hasn’t decided whether or not to take the job. Reitman, who hasn’t directed a film since My Super Ex-Girlfriend in 2006 and now spends his time producing, also directed the first two Ghostbuster films. Reitman can be hit or miss – Ghostbusters was a comic revelation, but Ghostbusters II was a precipitous fall. However, he still has the talent to see it through. Bloody Disgusting has plot and character details: Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers “reopen” their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years. As previously reported, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement (in various interviews on the web). There were rumors that the movie would include a younger ghostbusting cast for a new generation, »

'Ghostbusters 3' To Officially Rule, Ivan Reitman Comes Aboard

9 October 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I suppose you'll want to ingest this news with a few grains of salt, but Bloody Disgusting has a good track record for getting this stuff right. The great news this morning is that "Ghostbusters 3" is that "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II" director Ivan Reitman is "straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt" attached to the coming sequel. He apparently hasn't decided if he's going to direct just yet -- Reitman has been relatively quiet since 2006's "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" -- but any "Ghostbusters"/Reitman pairing is certainly welcome.

To be fair, Reitman told MTV back in June that he'd been talking to Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd about "Ghostbusters 3" , essentially confirming his involvement in the project. Wait though! There's more! Bd also unearthed the faint whiff of a plot detail. It's not much, but it's definitely enough to fill in a little more of that picture. And since »

Ivan Reitman Attached to 'Ghostbusters 3'

9 October 2009 2:38 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Ivan Reitman, the man behind the lens of the first two "Ghostbusters" films, will indeed be involved in the development of "Ghostbusters 3". Bringing up the story to the attention was Bloody-Disgusting (Bd), which confirmed that the 62-year-old filmmaker is 100% attached to the project.

While the director of "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" is definitely on board to produce, Bd noted that he is yet to make a decision over the potential directing job. "While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet," so wrote the site on the matter.

Reitman news aside, Bd also offered new information on what "Ghostbusters 3" will be about. It revealed that this second sequel to the 1980s comedy movie will begin as the paranormal researchers "reopen" their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years.

For "Ghostbusters 3", Columbia Pictures has picked up Emmy-nominated screenwriting team, »

'Final Destination' Clings to Labor Day Lead

7 September 2009 9:35 AM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

With the usual smattering of modest Labor Day releases, Summer 2009 came to a quiet close. While overall business was up 43 percent from the corresponding (non-holiday) timeframe last year, this Labor Day weekend was one of the least-attended in over a decade. Falling 55 percent (comparing Friday-Sunday periods) but still leading the weekend, The Final Destination pulled in an estimated $15.4 million over the four-day weekend, lifting its total to $50.6 million in ten days. The horror sequel had a steeper drop than its predecessors as well as My Bloody Valentine 3-D from earlier this year. Nonetheless, it surpassed the final gross of Final Destination 2 and will soon top the other Final Destination movies, though it has a ways to go in terms of attendance. Featuring Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper hot off the successes of The Proposal and The Hangover, respectively, All About Steve bagged an estimated $13.9 million four-day opening on approximately 2,300 screens at 2,251 sites. »

Guy Ritchie To Direct Lobo

3 September 2009 12:12 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ bad boy anti-hero Lobo, a character originated in 1983 in “Omega Men” by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen.

Lobo is a alien interstellar bounty hunter. The seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc.

Don Payne will pen the script (The Simpsons, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, My Super Ex-Girlfriend) and Joel Silver (The Matrix, Speed Racer, RocknRolla, Ninja Assassin), Akiva Goldsman (Deep Blue Sea, Starsky & Hutch, I Am Legend), and Andrew Rona (The Brothers Grimm) are producing along with Warner Bros, who owns DC Comics and all of its characters.

Shooting kicks off early next year and is aiming for a PG-13 rating. [source: Variety]

Guy Ritchie to Direct Lobo

3 September 2009 6:37 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

One of the stranger comic book to movie adaptations that has been rumoured for a while now is a live action version of Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen's Lobo. The badass alien bounty hunter was originally created as a parody of ultra-violent comic book characters in the '80s and gained popularity throughout the '90s. Earlier this year it was believed that Joel Silver and Warner Brothers were finally moving forward with the property, and now we actually have confirmation that a director has been named. According to THR's Heat Vision blog [1], Guy Ritchie will be taking the reins on this project, replacing Doug Liman who had been attached previously. The script was penned by The Simpsons writer Don Payne (My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer). Something tells me this isn't the right creative team to handle Lobo. Guy Ritchie Named to Direct a PG-13 Lobo Movie

3 September 2009 2:33 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie has been tapped to take on a DC Comics character — an insane space tracker called Lobo. But will Ritchie be able to do it as a PG-13 offering?

The comics character is one of DC's crudest and bloodiest, but according to Variety: WB is aiming for a PG-13 rating. Pic will be strong on visual effects, and Ritchie will bring the irreverent, gruff tone of past films like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. With all the recent news and attention on Disney's Marvel deal, one wonders if this is an attempt by WB to shine the light on their productions. The picture is set to begin next year. Don Payne will pen the script (The Simpsons, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, My Super Ex-Girlfriend), with Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman, and Andrew Rona producing.

Guy Ritchie Signs On to Direct DC Comics' Lobo Movie

2 September 2009 2:05 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

It looks like no more gangster films for Guy Ritchie. The British filmmaker has signed on to direct an adaptation of the DC Comics' property Lobo, his first superhero movie. Joel Silver is producing the film, with Don Payne (My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Rise of the Silver Surfer, "The Simpsons") writing the script. Lobo is an blue-skinned cigar-chomping alien who is an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. The character is one of DC’s more recent creations (he was introduced in 1980s by creators Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen) and for a brief run in the 1990s was one of the most popular characters. Could be badass? Lobo is an anti-hero who was meant to serve as a parody of other violent heroes such as Wolverine and the Punisher, with his stories featuring a nihilistic streak tinged with dark comedy and excessive violence. Perfect for Guy Ritchie, considering that before Sherlock Holmes, »

Firefly star Nathan Fillion in talks for DC Comics superhero role?

13 July 2009 8:30 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Nathan Fillion has long been a fan favourite for the role of Green Lantern on the big screen.

There has even been a fan-made trailer splicing together pieces of different movies and TV shows to portray Fillion in the lead role of pilot Hal Jordan, who finds a powerful ring when a dying alien crash-lands on Earth.

But the 38-year-old was reportedly ruled out of playing the superhero on the grounds of his age and we've just heard that Ryan Reynolds has landed the role of the DC Comics character.

In an interesting new twist, MTV reports that, according to a Twitter message, Fillion has just been in talks at DC Comics, along with Rainn Wilson.

Fillion is probably best known for playing Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Joss Whedon's TV series Firefly and its film spin-off Serenity. He also had a recurring role in Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and appeared in Desperate Housewives. »

Aykroyd Talks Ghostbusters 3

20 May 2009 10:34 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

A third Ghostbusters movie has been speculated about, rumored about, talked about for years. To hear Dan Aykroyd talk, rumor may finally becoming reality and ghosts may be getting busted once more come Christmas.

Whether it be truth from the horse's mouth or just wishful thinking from a man very enthusiastic about the prospects of once again putting a nuclear-power proton pack on his back, Aykroyd spoke to the La Times Hero Complex about the status of Ghostbusters 3.

For starters, the film could be shooting as early as this winter. Also, original director Ivan Reitman won't be behind the camera. As Aykroyd puts it, Reitman is too busy as a "super producer" to direct the film. Considering Reitman's last three outings behind the camera were My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Evolution, and Six Days, Seven Nights, him not directing might be for the best. Aykroyd is pushing for original Ghostbuster Harold Ramis to direct. »

Is Megan Fox A She-Hulk?

14 April 2009 10:10 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

There is a wild Rumor flying around that Megan Fox is the favorite to play She-Hulk in a spinoff film of The Incredible Hulk.

If this totally unsubstantiated rumor somehow turns out to be true, it would mean that Megan Fox is about to star in a  trifecta of comic book films: she’s already been confirmed to play the titular role in an adaptation of Michael Turner’s Fathom, and she’ll also have a role in the upcoming adaptation of Jonah Hex.

That comic book-clout doesn’t even count the box office clout she’s going to have when Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen explodes into theaters and IMAX this Summer. Anyway you look at, it’s a good time to be Megan Fox.

This is what an “inside source” close to the wild rumor about She-Hulk had to say about Megan Fox taking on the role:

Catherine Hardwicke to direct 'Maximum Ride'?

16 March 2009 11:56 PM, PDT | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

Catherine Hardwicke is in talks to direct Columbia's big-screen version of James Patterson’s best-selling novel series “Maximum Ride."

The story focuses on six kids who underwent genetic modification to be 98 percent human and 2 percent bird. After escaping from the laboratories they’re held at, the children are pursued by a gang of werewolves sent to track them down.

Don Payne, screenwriter of “My Super Ex-Girlfriend” and “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” is writing the script.

Columbia is eyeing an entire franchise if this film succeeds. No word on how many films the studio is planning at this stage.

Hardwicke last directed Summit's "Twilight," but she won't return for the sequel, "New Moon." Her credits also include "Thirteen" and "Lords of Dogtown."
