7 Stars
Delightful, interesting film-- that both young people and adults can enjoy.
The story revolves mainly around a 10-year-old girl named Felicity, and her family who live in Williamsburg, in 1775. As usual in these cases, Felicity is a spirited, independent-minded heroine.
She is played by a very appealing young actress.
Felicity also has a very likable family, her father runs a store and she has an adorable little sister, as well as some other younger siblings. Felicity also has a grandfather, with whom she has a wonderful relationship.
This being 1775 in the colonies, there is some division between people who are loyalists and people who are patriots.
The storyline also revolves around Felicity and a mare that she is very fond of-- who is owned by a man who has some problems since the death of his wife. He has taken to drinking and does not treat his horse well.
How all these issues resolve themselves-- makes for a very nice story.
I don't know if this film was as historically accurate as it should have been-- I questioned some of the things I saw in this film in that regard.
I found it unlikely that a 10-year-old girl would have an escort, who is not a relative, take her to a party. I also found it unlikely that a young girl would have a dress with black trim on it. And while the colonies were not as class conscious as England--I seriously doubt someone who was a contracted apprentice, would be invited to a Christmas party by an upper-class/wealthy person.
Those things aside, this is a very enjoyable film.
