I watched this show because I admire the work of Nicole Sullivan. While the other women are attractive and talented, I thought of Hot Properties as a chance for Nicole Sullivan to step forward and do her best work to date. Of course, in an ensemble piece, an actor struggles for attention (without rudely upstaging everyone). Ms Sullivan finally got her opportunity in the Christmas episode, which was a parody of A Christmas Carol and It's A Wonderful Life. That one was my favorite because it featured mostly Nicole who did a great job with a script that could have been a tad snappier. Granted, the episode's sentiments were typically mawkish holiday cheer, but Nicole's deadpan delivery and comic timing made the sap bearable and entertaining.
I am not sorry to see Hot Propeties cancelled because it was too much in the vein of other recent shows on television (examples are mentioned in other comments) and contributed little to its genre or our understanding of women's lives (as much as a situation comedy can). I did like the Oprah jokes but only because I regard the cult of Oprah with skepticism. I would understand were Oprah's fans offended because the jabs at Oprah were hamfisted and repeated as a one note song. But that treatment is life in the big time. Anway, were the writing better, I would be sad to see the show go, but it just did not quite reach the heights of satire and comedy to which it aspired. I wish the writers and producers well though and look forward to seeing more of their work.
As for Nicole Sullivan, your fans anxiously await your next series in which you are the star. Here is to a better show yet. Good luck.
