ABC Not Ordering Additional Eastwick Episodes

9 November 2009 11:00 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Instead of flat-out just saying they're canceling the series "Eastwick", ABC is beating about the bush with reports that they've "decided not to order additional episodes" beyond its initial 13. Seven of them have aired with the remaining six scheduled to be shown after a two-week break for some special programming on the network.

As the La Times put it: "Eastwick" has often [been] averaging less than 5 million viewers. The show, which stars Rebecca Romijn and Lindsey Price, is based on the John Updike book. While it spawned a moderately successful movie, this is the third time an attempt to make a TV series based on the book has fallen short.

Does anyone remember the other two? If not, it's no surprise since neither made it past the pilot stage. We did a little digging for old time's sake. The first was in 1992 and kept the full "The Witches of Eastwick" title. »

Brothers & Sisters Sneak Peek: "The Wig Party"

4 November 2009 11:23 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

It's been a tough few weeks for Nora on Brothers & Sisters. That's what happens when your daughter is diagnosed with cancer.

But the Walker matriarch catches a break this Sunday in the form of Dr. Simon Craig.

Played by The Closer's Jon Tenney, he'll provide a nice distraction for Sally Field's character.

"It's the beginning of Nora trying to find some balance in her life in terms of dealing her daughter," said showrunner David Marshall Grant. "It's the beginning of a source of hope for Nora, and reminds the audience, despite what's going on, there's always hope in the future."

Watch a clip of Nora meeting Simon below and remember to return to TV Fanatic soon after "The Wig Party" concludes for a full recap/review:

'The Boondock Saints II': Sloppy Second, By Kurt Loder

Director Troy Duffy does it again. Why?

Sean Patrick Flanery, Billy Connolly, Norman Reedus and Clifton Collins Jr. in "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day"

Photo: Apparition

Having been unable to sit through the 1999 "Boondock Saints" in its wretched entirety, I've been surprised to watch it become a massive "cult hit" on DVD. Blockbuster-stoked fan enthusiasm has propelled it into the top 20 of all catalog titles currently on sale, and to number 12 in Blu-ray unit sales. So shut my mouth.

Now comes director Troy Duffy's flatulent sequel, "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day." Ten years in the contemplation! It doesn't feel quite that long to sit through in its wretched entirety (which I did this time), but I still can't imagine any but the most easily entertained being willing to do so.

The new movie opens where the last one left off, more or less. Twin brothers »

Perhaps inspired by Sarah's burgeoning relationship with Luc (Giiles Marini), Norah will soon find a new squeeze on Brothers & Sisters.

TV Guide Magazine reports that Jon Tenney, who stars as Fritz Howard on The Closer, will portray a new boy toy named Simon for Sally Field's character.

Tenney will appear on four episodes of the ABC drama, debuting November 8.

Radha Mitchell is a Bipolar Badass Cop in A&E’s The Quickening

12 October 2009 9:04 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

No, it’s not yet another “Highlander” sequel/reboot or TV series, in case that’s what you were thinking. It’s called “The Quickening”, and it’s a new cop show from A&E (cause, obviously, there isn’t nearly enough cop shows on TV at the moment) set to star Radha Mitchell, known primarily for her movie roles in films like “Silent Hill”, “Surrogates”, and the upcoming “The Crazies” remake. While this will be Mitchell’s first foray onto American TV land as the lead, it won’t be the first time an actress known for her movie work decided to take the leap onto the small screen. She follows in the footsteps of other notable movie leading ladies Kyra Sedgwick (the star of TNT’s cop show “The Closer”) and Holly Hunter (the star of TNT’s other cop show “Saving Grace” — gee, starting to see a pattern here? »

Bruce Davison to Recur on The Ghost Whisperer

12 October 2009 12:04 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Bruce Davison isn't done with The Ghost Whisperer.

The actor will reprise his role - first seen in May's finale - as the dean of Rockland University for at least four episodes this season. The character has a connection to the Book of Changes.

“He plays a really pivotal character,” producer P.K. Simonds told TV Guide Magazine. “He's now the president of the university, but he had a certain relationship to the book that was just kind of hinted at last season, and we're going to find out more about that. His relationship with various potent forces are a threat to our characters this coming season, and we're going to find out a lot about that starting soon.”

Davison has most recently appeard on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Closer and Criminal Minds. He'll pop up from time to time on this CBS drama, Simonds said.

Highest Paid TV Stars

2 October 2009 12:51 PM, PDT | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

As we nibble away at the problem of world hunger and famine, TV stars are sipping on bubbly Cristal straight from the bottle. No one said life was fair but when you finish this article you might want to toss your cookies and begin a new career as an actor. We all know that Hollywood actors are paid well, and maybe we can justify it since they work eighteen hour days, but wait until you see their paycheck at the end of the day. David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien have a cushiony bed stuffed with money that late night hours don't bother them; their total salaries is over seventy-six million dollars. Even though we love to hate the filthy rich we are extremely intrigued by their large wallets. So let's take a trip through primetime television to see who is making what and who needs to step up! »

Not to toot my own horn, but I was pretty much the only person on the planet to predict that Brian Cranston would win the Emmy last year for Breaking Bad. Bear that in mind as you peruse my 2009 picks. Remember though, If you use any of the info below in your office pool, I'm legally entitled to receive 20 percent of the jackpot. Also keep in mind this is who/what I think will win, not necessarily who I want to win. Best Comedy Series Entourage Family Guy Flight of the Conchords How I Met Your Mother The Office *30 Rock Weeds * Barring a Family Guy upset, Emmy voters will go to there again with Tina Fey's rollicking (albeit increasingly uneven) satire. The Jay Leno Show Debuts!

15 September 2009 5:35 AM, PDT | People.com - TV Watch | See recent People.com - TV Watch news »

Jay Leno introduced his prime-time variety/talk show Monday at 10 p.m., and it turns out that Jay Leno at 10 p.m. wasn't much different from Jay Leno at 11:30 p.m.. But did anyone expect him to alter his DNA and come out sounding like The Daily Show's Jon Stewart? Eager, hard-working, upbeat, Leno remains Santa's largest elf -- and it's Christmas, whether you want it or not. What's groundbreaking is the show's time slot. The Jay Leno Show is a major programming gamble for NBC. The network is clearing the 10 p.m. weeknight of episodic series and bringing in the former Tonight host only months after he retired. (His first guest, Jerry Seinfeld, referred to The Leno Show as "your 'I didn't get fired by NBC' program.") The network has pitched the show as a no-lose proposition, so cheap it could be watched by no one and turn a profit. »

TV's top brass: Why so white?

7 September 2009 5:12 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

For our final class of our EW University course on TV Auteurs, Prof. Jennifer Armstrong is back to address the lack of diversity in our list, and in the TV industry as a whole. Aaron Sorkin, Aaron Spelling, Joss Whedon, J.J. Abrams: All great auteurs, with distinct voices and visions, who left indelible marks on television. All genuinely brilliant in their own ways. All deserving of auteur status. And, of course, all white men. When we assembled our list of TV visionaries to discuss in this EW U course, there was no arguing with the names we chose. We could’ve added a few more –- a David E. Kelley or a Seth MacFarlane or a Chuck Lorre -– but, guess what! Those are still more white men. Distinctive talents, sure. But when it comes to offering a broad range of perspectives, television still lags behind, you know, real life. »

Gamer Review

6 September 2009 8:51 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Short Version: Never quite reaching the “Good” mark and hovering just below “Ok,” Gamer opens the 2009 Fall movie season with plenty of shooting, death, blood and confusion.

Screen Rant’s Paul Young reviews Gamer

I’ve written this review for Gamer three times now and with each iteration I just can’t seem to find that slightly mocking tone I like to use so much - not to mention each one has been over 2000 words long and there is no way this movie deserves that much effort.  But I thought, “Am I’m trying too hard to be a ‘professional’ movie critic? No one really listens to them very much; people would rather listen to what their friends think of the movie. I wonder if we have any more Twinkies and Cheez-Wiz?” I’m just telling you what I thought; I never said I would edit those thoughts.
