Olivia Wilde Discusses Fix and Tron: Legacy

17 November 2009 8:20 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Actress Olivia Wilde has been padding her resume with a wide variety of projects lately, from the popular TV drama House to the horror film Turistas to the slapstick period comedy Year One. Not only are her projects disparate in genre and tone, but in production size. Wilde's latest film, Fix, in which she co-stars with her real-life husband, actor-director Tao Ruspoli, was shot in only 18 days using a single camera. In contrast, Wilde recently acted alongside Jeff Bridges in Disney's upcoming Tron: Legacy, a movie that required several camera units, not to mention untold hours of computer graphics work.

In a recent interview with Moviefone, Wilde discussed working on a movie as close to home as Fix, which was inspired by an actual day in the lives of her husband and his brother, a heroin addict.

Danny Elfman Out As Wolfman Composer

9 November 2009 3:18 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Very few film composers have a fan following all their own, but Danny Elfman is definitely one of them-- his work with Tim Burton on Batman and Nightmare Before Christmas is justly iconic, and then sometimes he turns around and gives us something completely different and beautiful, like last year's score for Milk. Who knows what kind of Elfman work we would have been getting on the upcoming The Wolfman, because, according to Cinemusic.net (via The Playlist), Elfman is being replaced as the film's composer. Paul Haslinger, who has mostly scored random schlock like Turistas and the Death Race remake, will be taking over from here. The reason given is scheduling conflicts, thanks to the film's mulitple delays, but given that Elfman had an entire score prepared already, it seems something less happy is the actual cause. The most recent trailer, embedded below, featured utterly un-Elfman-like modern rock type »

Triangle (Film Review)

26 October 2009 4:05 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Triangle starts out with a premise that would fit any Sy-Fy original: when passengers out on a yacht hit sudden stormy weather, they seek refuge on a mysteriously abandoned ocean liner. You've seen it in Virus, Ghost Ship, Ghost Voyage and a dozen other bad movies. What you don't expect is where writer/director Christopher Smith is going with it and the compelling lead performance by Melissa George.

After they abandon their capsized yacht, Jess (George) and her friends come aboard the ocean liner, which has food, drink and everything they could possibly want. Unfortunately, there's also a bag-headed killer picking them off one by one with a bloody ax. Who this killer is and their motivation for targeting Jess and her friends is the interesting twist in Triangle.

It's a time travel movie, and they are slated to keep dying again and again, unless Jess can figure out a way to break the cycle. »

Excl: Stan Helsing Director Kills 'Em With Laughter

4 September 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Amid the glut of horror-comedies arriving this fall, one is going to take a stab at six modern movie killers in Bo Zenga's Stan Helsing . Steve Howey ( Reba ) plays the titular hero, a video store clerk whose unaware that he is a descendent of the Van Helsing family and must battle a horde of monsters in his small town. "I will lay myself across the tracks as far as how good this movie is," enthuses writer-director Zenga, making his feature directorial debut. Zenga has played both ends of the spectrum in his career. In 2004 he penned Soul Plane and, two years later, produced Turistas with Josh Duhamel and Melissa George. He attributes Helsing .s success to not just the cast of bogeymen he spoofs (Myers, Krueger, Pinhead, Chucky, Leatherface and Jason) but the »

New Trailer for ‘Stan Helsing’

28 August 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Remember the time when the phrase “from the guys that brought you Scary Movie” actually meant something? We don’t either, but it applies to the newest venture in outstanding filmmaking, Stan Helsing, or it’s full title, Stan Helsing: A Parody. I’m glad they made that clear.

The film’s premise is pretty simple: every horror movie bad guy you can think of, from Jason Voorhees to Pinhead, is terrorizing a local town, and it’s up to the distant descendant of Van Helsing to save the day. The only problem being that said descendant, Stan Helsing, is kind of a moron.

The term “from one of the guys who brought you Scary Movie” is in reference to Bo Zenga, an executive producer on the first Scary Movie, who went on to produce other gems like Soul Plane and Turistas. Helsing is his third produced script, and his first attempt at directing. »
