If money is power, these actresses are superheroes

14 October 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Forbes’ lists of powerful women usually are fairly predictable, topped (in every sense) by Angelina Jolie.

But last week, Forbes published its annual list that reveals another side to power: Roi. And the top 10 actresses who provide the best return on a film company’s investment may surprise you.

At No. 1 is Australian actress Naomi Watts.

Watts’ most recent movie, The International, was a suspenseful thriller, to be sure, but it was only a modest box office success. Watts, however, gets less than $5 million a film — and earned the studio about $44 for every $1 she was paid on her last three major movies.

Second is Jennifer Connelly.

Although He’s Just Not That Into You was fairly cliché, Imo, the studio convinced its stars to take a pay cut to be in the movie. It made $177 million. Average that with Connelly’s roles in Blood Diamond and The Day the Earth Stood Still »

Bankable actress Naomi Watts

6 October 2009 5:01 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Naomi Watts is the world's most profitable actress. The 'International' star has topped Forbes.com's latest Best Actresses for the Buck list after proving movie bosses can make the most money from her. The 41-year-old beauty - who has also starred in 'The Ring', 'King Kong' and 'Eastern Promises' - helped the box office rake in an estimated $44 for every $1 she was paid for her last three major films. The list's top spots are notably filled by many actresses willing to accept a lower salary than A-list stars like Angelina Jolie - who was named Hollywood's highest-earning actress by Forbes earlier this year. 'Blood Diamond' actress Jennifer Connelly, 38 - who previously won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, »

tMF Talkback: Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt - Two awesome actors in similar mode?

5 October 2009 9:05 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

If you're going to ask me which movie of Leonardo DiCaprio I remember the most, I'd say - 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape', and I'll have to add that even though Johnny Depp headlines the flick, both him and Leo stood out with their heartfelt performances- with DiCaprio earning an Oscar nom for his role. While I am inclined to say that Leo's role appears to be the more challenging, the acclaim he received stems from the fact that he really put himself into Arnie and he became that character.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ Headed for IMAX

2 October 2009 4:27 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Since Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi film, Inception, premiered its teaser trailer in August, news and footage from the film have been rolling out steadily.

Today, we got word that Inception would receive a dual release in both standard 35mm and in IMAX. Check out the full text of the press release from the IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. below for the details and our thoughts.

IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan (”The Dark Knight”) and starring multiple Oscar(R) nominee Leonardo DiCaprio (”Blood Diamond,” “The Aviator”), will be released to IMAX(R) theatres simultaneously with the film’s wide release in conventional theatres on July 16, 2010. The film marks the third IMAX project for Christopher Nolan, following the record-breaking IMAX release of “The Dark Knight,” which grossed more than $65 million at IMAX theatres. Christopher Nolan’s Inception Will be Shown in IMAX. But it Wasn’t Shot in IMAX. Fuck.

1 October 2009 1:59 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

IMAX has just announced that Christopher Nolan’s latest film “Inception” will be released next year in IMAX. Great news, right? Unfortunately, the news could be better and here’s why: since the film was shot using conventional 35mm cameras and not using the actual IMAX cameras, the IMAX release is going to be using the IMAX Dmr technology to blow up the image to fill the screen. So while it’ll still look good, it won’t be the oh my god quality that was “The Dark Knight”. Look, I’m still extremely excited to see “Inception” in IMAX, I just wish at least part of it was shot using real IMAX cameras. Anyway, we’ve been sent a press release and it’s after the jump. It’s filled with the usual stuff that says how excited everyone is to be working together.

Michael Sheen Calls His 'New Moon' Character 'Gentle On The Surface'

In the "Twilight" universe, there's no shortage of father figures. For tough, fair and loving, you have Bella's dad, Charlie Swan. For a slightly better-looking, cooler paternal icon, there's Dr. Carlisle Cullen. Now, Twilighters have a new one in 40-year-old veteran actor Michael Sheen.

We know that Sheen's Aro isn't technically the "father" of the Volturi clan, but in many ways, the star took his role as elder statesman on both sides of the camera very seriously. Recently, we caught up with the star of "Kingdom of Heaven," "The Queen" and "Blood Diamond" to get his thoughts on the "Twilight" family, a "scary as hell" Dakota Fanning and all that RPattz insanity.

Bad Accents In Film

22 September 2009 10:42 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

How many times have you sat down to watch a film and no matter how hard you try you can’t ignore that actor who ruins everything by putting on an atrocious accent.

Let’s take a look at some notorious crimes in the history of movie accents:

Nicolas Cage As Captain Antonio Corelli

In Captain Corelli’s Mandolin (2001)

Nicolas Cage puts on a comical Italian accent and ruins any romantic feelings the film was trying for. He seems to have taken lessons from Mario and Luigi in to how to deliver the most stereotypical Italian voice ever. To be fair the film was boring anyway so credit to him for at least making it funnier in places.

Heather Graham As Mary Kelly

In From Hell (2001)

Apart from the fact that she looks to clean and well groomed to be an east end prostitute in Victorian London, Heather Graham delivers »

Expecting to watch Jennifer Connelly have tantric sex with Charles Darwin? Keep waiting

21 September 2009 7:07 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Don’t expect Jennifer Connelly to get nekkid in the upcoming drama Creation. The last thing this world needs is a sexy tale of Charles Darwin but leave it to the UK’s The Guardian for breaching the subject.

“Sex scenes are incredibly awkward, they’re always uncomfortable. I think they’re overused and people get very flustered by them,” the Blood Diamond star said. “People don’t know how to discuss them and there’s a lot of embarrassment. It’s not my favorite thing to do, but there are circumstances in which they make sense. I just wish people wouldn’t dance around them.”

Connelly plays opposite husband Paul Bettany in Creation which debuted at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. Soooo, no love scenes between Emma and Charles Darwin? (I can honestly say, I didn’t expect to write that this morning.)

Michael Sheen, who portrays Volturi Clan's leader Aro on upcoming movie "The Twilight Saga's New Moon", has been confirmed to join the cast ensemble of Joseph Kosinski-directed film "Tron Legacy". Speaking in an interview with ComingSoon.net, Sheen says he will portray a nightclub host in the Tron world.

"That was amazing, because there's a lot of green screen in that," Sheen told ComingSoon.net about the film, which is planned to be released in U.S. theaters on December 17, 2010. "But my stuff was mainly in this amazing set that they built because I'm a nightclub host, so they built the nightclub and there were hundreds of extras and it was one of those great scenes where there's just loads going on."

Michael Sheen got public attention after starring as Tony Blair on 2006 flick "The Queen". Since then, he has starred on lots of movies, including "Blood Diamond", "Music Within »
