  • Continuity: When Will Ferrell (Chazz) goes to see Jenna Fischer (Katie) in the hotel room, the door behind him goes from open to closed to open again.

  • Factual errors: The newspaper story about Stranz, Fairchild and Katie's parents' death is dated "Sunday, March 14, 1987". March 14, 1987 was a Saturday, not a Sunday.

  • Miscellaneous: Several characters refer to the National Figure Skating Association as "the International Figure Skating Association." However, all the logos and signs say "National Figure Skating Association" or "National Skating Association."

  • Continuity: When Chaz is trying to call Jimmy to explain that nothing was going on between him and Katie. His alarm clock at first has white tape covering the timex logo then it switches to black.

  • Factual errors: Sports Anchor Scott Hamilton comments that Chazz nails a Triple Axel, when, in fact, only a double had been executed.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The characters appear hell-bent on ruining their skates. In a scene where Coach is sharpening skates, he is grinding the blade nearly perpendicular to the skating direction, which would destroy the blade. Also, Stranz and Chazz's chase at the end would have rendered their skates useless.

  • Factual errors: When the skaters' scores are posted on the TV, the Van Waldenbergs are listed by their first names, but all of the other skating teams are listed by last name. It should have read Van Waldenberg/Van Waldenberg instead of Stranz/Fairchild.

  • Continuity: When Jimmy McElroy is stranded by his adopted father, the limousine pulls into the snow on the shoulder of the road. In the next shot, Jimmy watches the limo pull away, but there are no tire tracks in the snow.

  • Continuity: When Chazz gets onto the escalator, his blades get stuck in the grooves of the step. But when Stranz gets onto the escalator, Chazz's feet are pointing outwards and the blades are not in the grooves.

  • Continuity: During the first pairs awards scene, a woman is seen offering a red bottle of champagne to Will Ferrell's character. In the ensuing shot, the same woman can be seen bringing the same bottle to the characters once again, in the background.

  • Continuity: When Chazz deliberately rips the shoulder of his costume to show Jimmy his tattoo, we can see that the material is fully ripped and not re-attachable. Seconds later Chazz's costume is fully intact.

  • Continuity: Just after Chazz and Jimmy are arrested at the ice show, Coach (Craig T. Nelson) sees it on the news and reverses the newscast playback with his Tivo remote. The reversed audio does not match what the newscaster said immediately before he began reversing the playback (the reversed audio says "and disturbing the peace; they are awaiting arraignment", then some garbled speech).

  • Revealing mistakes: When Stranz and Fairchild watch a video of Chazz and Jimmy skating, several seconds of footage is shown, but the on-screen timer never advances.

  • Continuity: When Chazz Michael Michaels is kidnapped by Stranz Van Waldenberg, Stranz hits him over the head with a hammer on the right side of his head. For the remainder of the movie the mark left by the hammer is on the left side of Chazz's head.

  • Continuity: While Chaz and Jimmy are practicing the lotus move, Jimmy's skate cuts Chaz's leg through his costume and into his skin. In the following scene where the coach is asking Jimmy and Chaz if they want to continue practicing, the cut in the skin and in the costume is no longer visible.

  • Errors in geography: You can't see the Olympic Stadium in Montreal from Habitat 67. It is also on the wrong side.

  • Continuity: When Chazz is being chased by Stranz, he has one ice skate on and looks back at Stranz. In the next scene both skates are on and Chazz is able to skate away

  • Continuity: When Jimmy sits down for the finale of his skating routine in Stockholm, his position is in the lower part of the tournament logo in the skating rink. But when he stands, he is already in the center of the tournament logo.

  • Continuity: When Chazz Michael Michaels pulls himself out of the frozen waterway after falling in at the end of the chase scene with Stranz, his hair is wet but his coat and gloves are clearly quite dry.

  • Revealing mistakes: Stranz and Fairchild are supposedly winning the gold medal with only Chazz and Jimmy left to skate. However, when standing on the winner's podium at the end, they are actually standing the 3rd place position meaning they were only guaranteed a silver medal. Second place is on the right hand side of the first place spot and third place is on the left hand side with Olympic podiums.

  • Continuity: In scene where Chazz is trying to get a hold of Jimmy on the phone after the incident with his girlfriend, the water bottle on the head board of the bed switches from the right to the left and then back to the right between shots.

  • Anachronisms: In the news footage from the scene of the Van Waldenberg parent’s car accident, that took place March 14, 1987, are Chevrolet Caprice police cruisers that are of a body style that was not produced until 1991.

  • Factual errors: Tivo does not play the audio when you reverse/rewind the program.

  • Continuity: When Chazz's promo video plays - right after his first skating routine - some of the candid skating shots were obviously filmed at the makeshift rink that Coach acquired, much later in the film. Note the boxes surrounding the ice.

  • Factual errors: During Jimmy's "Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò)" routine, he executes a double Salchow jump, to the delight of his coach and everyone present. However, at his level of competition, a double Salchow would be considered a failed or downgraded jumping pass, and the spectators would react as such.

  • Continuity: When Chazz offers Jimmy his shampoo, Jimmy puts it on the bunk bed post. When he goes to jump in bed, the bottle disappears.

  • Continuity: When Chazz calls Jimmy to apologize, there is no Jimmy tattoo visible on his upper arm. Later, when they are presented with the gold medals, Chazz claims that he had the tattoo done a week before-hand.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The games they compete in are the World Winter Sports Games, and not the Olympics. Although a spoof on the Olympics, the filmmakers have a little more leeway in "breaking the rules." What is not condoned in the Olympics does not necessarily apply to the World Winter Sports Games.

  • Continuity: During the official judgment hearing, Chaz stands up with a page from a magazine article about himself. In this shot, we can see Chaz's cut on his lip - evident from their earlier fight on the podium. However, a second later Chaz turns to the crowd and the cut on the lips is gone, another second later Chaz turns back to the judges and the cut is back.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the newspaper articles regarding the deaths of the van Waldenburg's are shown, the actual text of the articles is completely non-related to the 'incident' or even skating.

  • Continuity: During the Montreal medal ceremony, Chazz shows Jimmy the new tattoo he had done the previous weekend. However, the morning of the Montreal final when Chazz is still in the athlete village, there is no extra tattoo on his arm.

  • Continuity: After the stalker refers to the rulebook to show that Jimmy can still compete in the pairs division, you can hear him slam the book closed. The camera then cuts to Jimmy, who has just been handed the book, which is opened to the page that the stalker had previously been reading.

  • Factual errors: The rival team is repeatedly referred to as "Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg". They should have been officially referred to as "Fairchild Van Waldenberg and Stranz Van Waldenberg", as the woman is always named first in pairs skating and ice dancing and the last names of both skaters are always used even if they are the same. This also means that Jimmy MacElroy should have been named ahead of Chazz Michael Michaels, since he was the "female" in the pair.

  • Continuity: When the Pair's standings are shown, the 3rd place standings are Sokolova and Pluchenko from Russia with only MacElroy and Michaels and Strans and Fairchild left to compete. However, on the podium at awards is the pair Zhang and Li from China who were in 4th place when the standings were shown.

  • Continuity: Chazz talks about growing up in Detroit. However, in a brief mug shot, the text on the data board shows New Jersey.

  • Factual errors: When they are at the finals and the announcers say how the two American pairs have pulled away from the field, they show the standings. The lead they show the Van Waldenberg's have combined with their score shown in their Kennedy/Monroe routine would make it impossible for MacElroy/Michaels to catch them mathematically even with straight 6.0s (although their scores are never shown).

  • Continuity: When Jimmy is handcuffed to the stall in the public bathroom at the arena and he asks the boy for help and the boy yells, "Stranger Danger!" He runs away and knocks the trashcan over. You can see the trash can fall and the toilet paper fall out and roll directly towards Jimmy. When that happens you can clearly see there is nothing on the toilet paper when it rolls out. Then when the camera goes back after Jimmy's reaction, the toilet paper is covered with trash and at the very end, the key, which wasn't there when it initially rolled out.

  • Errors in geography: In the Denver arena you can see a small advertising billboard for Lise Watier, a small Montreal based cosmetic and perfume manufacturer, proving these scenes were shot in Montreal.

  • Continuity: When Stranz picks up the phone and its Jimmy he says "It's MacElroy" but right after he says that Fairchild turns to Katie and then Stranz says "for her," pointing to Katie.

  • Factual errors: As Chazz and Jimmy are performing the Iron Lotus in the final skating scene, a close-up of Jimmy's skate blade is shown and the blade is shown as having a sharp edge like a knife. Real-life figure skates have a narrow flat blade with 2 square edges that come off the ice at a 90-degree angle.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the two skaters are hauled before the committee after their fight on the dais, the Commissioner's title, prominently displayed on his desk, is misspelled as "Commisioner".
