When Elizabeth finds Father Malone in the cemetery, he is sitting next to a tomb which has been spray-painted with the words "MENE MENE TEKEL EUPHARIN". She asks what it means, and he simply says "It's from the Bible - it's the "writing on the wall"". The words should read "MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN", and are from the book of Daniel. The story is found in Chapter 5, and the words were originally written by fingers upon the wall of the palace of King of Babylon. Loosely translated, they were a pronouncement of judgment and coming retribution on the unjust King.
