I get to see Up in the Air on Tuesday, December 1. You don’t. That’s just one of the few highlights of being an extremely low paid journalist.
Paramount has made interviews with Jason Reitman, Danny McBride and Jason Bateman available. No, I don’t know why George Clooney isn’t in this mix.
Depending on what city you live in, here’s the possible dates for when you can see Up in the Air.
December 4, 2009 limited
December 11, 2009 expansion
December 25, 2009 wide
Jason Reitman – director (Thank you for Smoking, Juno)
Danny McBride (”Eastbound and Down,” Land of the Lost) as Jim Miller
Jason Bateman (Extract, Juno) as Craig Gregory

In his first two feature films, Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman established himself as an original, smart and funny storyteller known for his pitch-perfect commentaries on society. Reitman has a distinctive talent for taking provocative anti-heroes – a tobacco lobbyist in “Thank You for Smoking” and a pregnant teenager in the Oscar-winning “Juno” – and telling deeply human, funny and appealing stories in which these tricky characters defy expectations.
Reitman continues in this vein with his newest film, “Up in the Air,” the well-timed tale of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a corporate downsizer and consummate modern business traveler who, after years of staying happily airborne, suddenly finds himself ready to make a real connection. Based on the novel by Walter Kirn, the film also stars Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Danny McBride.
MoviesOnline sat down recently with Jason Reitman at the Los Angeles press day for “Up in the Air.” He talked to »

In this current world where Katie Holmes is wife to Tom Cruise and mother of Suri, it's easy to forget she used to have a pretty solid indie career intermingled with her days on the popular Creek -- Libbets Casey in The Ice Storm, Claire in Go, Hannah in Wonder Boys, Jessica in The Gift, Nurse Mills in The Singing Detective, April Burns in Pieces of April, and Heather Holloway in Thank You For Smoking. But there is one starring role in there that's quite applicable this week: Pieces of April. *
Her last big role of worth (she played only a supporting character in Smoking and she was bad enough to be axed from Gotham law after Batman Begins), Pieces of April finds Holmes the black sheep of a dysfunctional family. Living a life on her own in New York with her boyfriend Bobby, April decides to tackle the daunting »

Thanksgiving is a time for giving and making sacrifices, even if you're Jason Reitman and that means giving up your first class seats on a flight for the turkeys being pardoned by President Obama tomorrow. The "Juno" director tweeted a pic today from his travels, leading a pack of other photo posts that included John Hodgman's view from a Pixies concert last night and Denise Richards showing what she looks like while getting her hair highlighted.
Scope those out after the jump along with a discussion about the title of "Ninja Assassin" by Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O'Malley, Eliza Dushku "World of Warcraft" nerdery on display and more. It's all in the Thanksgiving Eve Twitter-Wood report for November 25, 2009.

Before the Best Director nomination, before Up in the Air, Juno, Thank You For Smoking and even his wonderful short films, director Jason Reitman appeared as an "actor" in a bunch of films. In the 1980's and 1990's, Jason's father, director Ivan Reitman, gave him small cameo roles in some of his movies. Jason played Granger Grandson in Twins, Brownstone Boy #2 in Ghostbusters II, the Vice-President's son in Dave, the Wrong Kid in Alley in Father's Day, and most importantly Kissing Boy in Kindergarten Cop. InContention has dug up the tape of Reitman's appearance in the 1990 Schwarzenegger comedy and put it online for all to see. In the scene, Arnold's character Detective John Kimble is searching the school hallways, when he bursts into an abandoned class room, interrupting two youngsters making out. This was Jason Reitman's first kiss. Not just his first on screen kiss... but his first kiss with a girl, »

One of the best films I’ve seen this year is director Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air. In his two previous movies, Juno and Thank You For Smoking, Reitman showed us he was a director to watch. And while I loved his two previous films, Up in the Air is definitely his best work and it’s sure to nab a nomination for Best Picture.
If you haven’t heard of Up in the Air, I would advise you to learn as little as possible and go see the movie based solely on my recommendation. But for a bit more…the film stars George Clooney as a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching his goal of ten million frequent flyer miles and after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams.
Finally, I »

Wow: killer trailer, full of zingers and pathos. I love this movie already. It’s Michael Clayton as a dramedy! It’s Thank You for Smoking but sweeter! It’s George Clooney in Love! At least that’s what Paramount wants us to think. And I’ll go along with that for now. Unless it turns out that it’s ten thousand kiddie balloons that loft Clooney up in the air. That’s such a cliché. Up in the Air opens in the U.S. in limited release on December 4 and wide on December 25; it open in the U.K. on January 15, 2010. »

Paramount Pictures has provided us with two new clips from their upcoming release Up in the Air, from Thank You for Smoking and Juno director Jason Reitman. As a programming note, this is probably the first of several great little pieces that we'll be running about Up in the Air, which is currently in my top ten movies of the year. We still have my own glowing review to post, as well as Dr. Cole Abaius' hilarious interview with Jason Reitman. Look for that later this week. For now, we have these two new clips. The first clip, "I'm Not a Tour Guide," features a conversation between jet-setting termination consultant Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) speaking with his boss (Jason Bateman) about taking a hotshot young peer out on the road to see how their business of firing people works. The second clip, entitled "Something Real," features Bingham talking to his hotshot traveling partner Natalie (Anna Kendrick) about »

It's been a long week for everyone in Twitter-Wood, especially for those involved with "New Moon." Someone at Mattel managed to sculpt out the abs on a Jacob Barbie doll in time for the film's release next week, though, and there's a pic in the feed today to prove it. Writer Brian Lynch, meanwhile, tweeted that the "Twilight" frenzy has stirred up cases of mistaken identity for him and prompted numerous friends to ask him how often he gets mistaken for the actor.
Jason Reitman seemed to have been hardest hit by the work week, though, seemingly passing out on his set. Check out that shot, along with with a "Star Trek" actor's brush with Neil Armstrong, Ice-t's run-in with Marilyn Manson and Fred Durst's plans for his "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" night-vision googles. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 13, 2009.

An extended TV Spot for Jason Reitman’s “Up In The Air” movie starring George Clooney has been released.
Jason Reitman (”Thank You for Smoking,” “Juno”) Oscar nominated director also wrote the script based on Walter Kirn’s novel of the same name.
Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a corporate hatchet man who loves his life on the road but is forced to fight for his job when his company downsizes its travel budget.
He is required to spend more time at home just as he is on the cusp of a goal he’s worked toward for years: reaching five million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams.
The movie which also stars Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, Tamala Jones and Chris Lowell, will hit theaters on December 4, 2009.

You can learn a lot from director Jason Reitman; after all, with only three features to his name - Thank You For Smoking, Juno, and the upcoming George Clooney vehicle Up in the Air - he's already established himself as one of the brightest filmmakers around, with a knack for making smart and human comedies, and he's barely into his thirties. For Reitman, the reason he gravitated so strongly towards his biggest hit, the Oscar-winning Juno, which made stars out of screenwriter Diablo Cody and actress Ellen Page, is because he loved the unusual decisions of its characters. 'I have no idea where my characters come from or what they do,' said Reitman. 'I just think of them as human beings.' Keeping in mind Reitman's love of 'unusual decisions,' it's no wonder that he veered from the usual Apple Store Meet the Filmmaker Talk format of a moderator, »

Every other year or so, film editor Dana E. Glauberman gets The Call. The tradition began quietly enough in 2005 with an indie adaptation of the novel Thank You For Smoking. Yet by last spring, as the first of Jason Reitman's footage from the set of Up in the Air arrived in Glauberman's editing suite, the duo's meticulous shaping and storytelling process began anew on their biggest project to date. Expectations run high after their previous collaboration Juno became an Oscar-winning box-office smash, and indeed Up in the Air is already showing similar promise after its Toronto Film Festival premiere. But to hear Glauberman tell it when Movieline caught up with her this week, that's just another day at the office. »

Someone with a steady hand sent Sean Patrick Flannery a picture of the best "Boondock Saints" jack-o-lantern you're likely to see this year, and he retweeted in kind. There really wasn't any other choice for the Twitter Pic of the Day.
In other tweets, David Slade continued his "Eclipse" posting with a shot of one of the film's stunt co-coordinators and Rachelle LeFevre admitted to crying during "Where the Wild Things Are." Check out those post below along an old clip of The Ultimate Warrior that Aziz Ansari dug up, how Eliza Dushku feels about Dungeons & Dragons, who wants her at his table to play and how Ice-t is faring at "Borderlands" on his Xbox 360. You should start by knowing that Jason Reitman (director of Thank You For Smoking and Juno) and Edgar Wright (director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) are pals, that they look almost exactly alike, and every now and then refer to each other as husbands. I know this all because I follow both of them on Twitter (Jason here, Edgar here), and their conversations with each other about filmmaking, editing, and traveling to do film promotion can sometimes be the best reason to be on Twitter. Anyway, this is all a long way of explaining that you ought to take the following sentence with a grain of salt: Jason Reitman has seen 30 minutes of Scott Pilgrim, and calls it "a Matrix for love and how we are willing to fight for it." He put it all on his Twitter feed after Wright showed him 30 minutes of the film, »

Well it looks like Edgar Wright has been showing a few close friends rough cut footage from his big screen adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. When I was in London last week, I had a chance to talk briefly with Jason Schwartzman, who told me that he had screened the opening 20 minutes, which he seemed very enthusiastic about. I tried to sneak my way into the UK editing bay, but unfortunately had no luck (believe me, I tried my hardest). And earlier today on Twitter, director Jason Reitman (Up in the Air, Thank You For Smoking, Juno) posted a mini glowing review of his thoughts on 30 minutes that Wright screened for him in London. In London, @edgarwright showed me 30min of Scott Pilgrim. While sworn to secrecy (so much, surprised blood wasn't demanded) I will say this: It is a game changer for Edgar and the genre. It »

Up in the Air came off the festival circuit with raves, many of which cried Oscar. The trailer did nothing to put out the fire, in fact, it only stoked our interest here at Screen Rant. Now, a new clip from the film is online and it looks great!
The film is directed by Jason Reitman of Juno fame and stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a professional down-sizer. He’s the guy execs hire when they can’t bring themselves to drop the F-word in front of their employees - “you’re fired.” The job keeps Bingham on the road most of the year and he’s developed a life goal of racking up ten million frequent flier miles, for reasons he explains in the clip below.
And while this goal (a major plot point) sounds unusual, if not shallow or just plain silly, it’s not a joke. »

There must have been a "New Moon"-related tweet mandate out today, because the faces of "Twilight" clogged my Twitter feed today. David Slade posted an "Eclipse" update, Peter Facinelli TwitPic'd from his makeup chair and BooBoo Stewart posted a photo op moment with Latoya Jackson. Even Gil Birmingham contributed an off-screen group shot.
Candid pics showed up from non-"Twilight"-ers as well, though. Ken Jeong, Sarah Silverman and Eli Roth are all prominently features in today's tweet mix, in addition to Rainn Wilson on Bill Cosby and Mark Webber's on-set shot from his new movie "The Lie." It's a photo-heavy day full of links in the Twitter-Wood report for October 20, 2009.

Lucky you, Movies Blog readers! Not only do you get a second helping of Twitter-Wood reportage today; I also come bearing the answer your last-minute Halloween costume plans if you've been pondering how to pull the perfect outfit together from Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds." Eli Roth tweeted a helpful diagram for anyone looking to replicate his Sgt. Donny Donowitz look, which helped earn his character his racy nickname "The Bear Jew."
In other sanitized-for-the-sake-of-this-column tweeting, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost collaborated on a slash fiction parody of their movie "Hot Fuzz," today, which apparently gained a lot of followers for Wright. Check out the barely family friendly ones after the jump, along with the "Eclipse" reveal planned for the "Twilight" Twitter account, Aziz Ansari's amusement park adventures and Jason Reitman's breakfast with the Chemical Brothers. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for October 19, 2009.

After screening Up In The Air at Tiff, Chris Bumbray gave the movie an excellent 9/10. His review actually made me more interested in the project from director Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking). George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham who has the ballsy job of flying from city to city firing workers because their own bosses can't do it themselves. Bingham has been quite accustomed to the perks of the job, like meeting gorgeous women (Vera Farmiga). Unfortunately his fun ride is... »

Jason Reitman’s feature follow up to the Oscar Winning Juno is many things. Up In The Air is an indictment of the economic misfortunes and the erosive nature of corporate culture, it is a road movie populated by dysfunctional family members (who are not related), it is a love story in reverse peppered with distant epiphanies and existential pondering, it is not Juno, and it is funny. Very funny.
Ryan Bingham (a nuanced performance from man of the festival, George Clooney) is a corporate downsizer for hire. He spends most of his life in airports, flying to industrial states in America, visiting workplaces and firing the staff. When we meet him he is on the receiving end of abuse, disbelief, emotional fallout from blue collar workers being let go of (firing is not a word he or his company use). He is a man of routine and control and »
