better than "cats." i'll see it again and again., 7 November 2004
9/10

shot in the wonderful greens and reds of "Amelie" and other near-real fantasies, maestro is a visually engaging treat. kudos to a brilliant young cinematographer named Daniel Stephens. however, the fun does not stop there. Daniel and his director, Doug stradley, have penned a touching and deeply amusing script about inspiration, obsession, and ultimately, love. Seth myers is both funny and believable as bowling alley attendant/ conductor Tim healey. his frustration is palpable as he stretches his frail understanding of music to the breaking point again and again in pursuit of the inexpressible "AIR." this is an all around standout short, strong in so many of the areas where shorts usually fail. the supporting cast is excellent, the sets are quite good, even the Foley is funny. i look forward to the commentary reel!
