Far Too Crappy

"Far Too Gone" represents everything that is wrong in the world of independent film-making. It is a project completely driven by ego, in the vein of films by Vincent Gallo; but where Gallo at least has a vision (questionable though they may be,) Brian Labrecque - the writer, director, and star of "Far Too Gone" - has a vague idea that he turns into a disaster.

The film is a one-trick-joke which seeks to make fun of the public image of singer Tori Amos and her devoted fans. It centers around a man who wears a cheap red wig and a bathtub and apparently thinks he *IS* Tori Amos. This is really the extent of the film. There are no real "characters" so much as caricatures or pastiches of Amos' various stereotypical fans.

The acting is abhorable at it's best, and that's a compliment. The cast were allegedly chosen without auditions, which to me translates to "all of my actor buddies got a part in my super cool movie!" I can't even fathom WHY someone would cast an actor without seeing if they can *ACT* first, as that *IS* the job you're hiring them to do.

At times the movie borders on insulting, especially in the insensitive way it deals with the topic of molestation. It seems to approach the fact that Amos is a sexual assault victim and has close ties with the topic as a point of mockery. Unlike a sketch on Saturday Night Live where fictional folk singer Cinder Calhoun speaks of meeting Tori Amos at a "Rage Against Incest" concert, in "Far Too Gone" molestation is treated as a trigger point for completely insane Amos fans and their antics.

To put the finest of points on it, "Too Far Gone" should be avoided at all costs. You couldn't possibly be Too Far AWAY from this film.
