Trivia:
The show is based on a short film Tom Goes to the Mayor (2002) by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim which appeared in independent film festivals as well as on Tim and Eric's website. Tim and Eric sent copies of the short to a few of their favorite comedians including Bob Odenkirk who liked it so much he showed it to David Cross. Cross later made a cameo in the sequel Tom Goes to the Mayor Returns (2003). Odenkirk later worked with Tim and Eric to develop the short into a series. more
Quotes:
The Mayor: [Tom is unconscious in a dumpster] Thomas! Tom-boy! Tom! Tom, are you okay?
Tom Peters: Oh, wow...
The Mayor: It's okay... I'm gonna hold up your head for you.
Tom Peters: ...think I hit my head... wh... where am I? What time is it?
The Mayor: Well... I've been keeping you in this dumpster for weeks now. Found this vest on a hobo and put it on you to keep you warm, 'cause you've been way too tender to move.
Tom Peters: Oh. Okay. What's that smell?
The Mayor: Tom, what you're probably smelling is the cat food. I've been coming by every night to feed you, and since you're unconscious, I would take a dollop of the wet cat food and stick it in your mouth and then move your jaw up and down like a chewing motion.
[Tom gags]
The Mayor: But in that process, some of the cat food fell out onto your lips and your face and it hardened a little bit in your hair and on your shirt.
Tom Peters: Okay. Right.

Refreshing show, very funny!, 31 May 2005
Author: algemaster from United States

This show is very hilarious in its own obscure way. As someone said before, you don't have to call someone a dumass, have sexual innuendo, or kill someone for comedy. I laughed so hard I cried the first time I saw the episode "vehicular manslaughter", the mayor's secrete handshake is classic. If you don't like it at first, watch a few episodes before you bash it. I am also a fan of aqua teen, sea lab, and robot chicken, so it's not like I have some strange/lame sense of humor. The mayor's antics are so cooky that you can't help but say wtf?? and just laugh your ass off. I'm getting the first season DVD for sure, and hopefully they will come out with a second!
