A totally new level of comedy, 1 October 2004
Author: davidgiles from Leeds, England

There is sit-com comedy...

...and then, once in a while, something comes along which is so

utterly, completely different to anything which you've seen before it

is strange, compelling and funny beyond belief.

Green Wing is not to everyone's taste - that much is obvious.

However...

The first episode was an hour long - I thought this would be a

scene-setting pilot. Not so. Every episode is one hour long, and the

comedy is rich and consistent throughout.

The characters are very well observed...

The incidental music is superb...

The post-production is excellent...

Speaking of which, the techniques of speed-up-slow-down have been

criticized in some quarters... They only serve to work the comedy to

its fullest. This is a technique which may be used again in other

comedy programs, but was used first (and to incredible comedy effect)

on Green Wing.

Utterly unmissable. Comedy of the highest, ground-breaking order.

Fabulous cast, impeccable writing, superb production.

There is nothing - nothing - to match Green Wing.
