This is one of the funniest films I've seen recently. Only this is not a comedy, but a martial arts film. So, what's wrong?
Filmed with an obvious small budget, the computer animation is often clumsy. The story itself is an odd conglomerate of plots and stories already told in other movies. Instead of offering something new and original it repeats endless clichés of the genre (why are the old masters always Asians?). I'm not going to say much about the plot holes (who are huge - really!). And, yes, the dialog is so stupid and ridiculous(For how long do you love me? - Who says I love you? - I've seen it in your eyes!), how are we supposed to take this film serious for a second?
The acting is rather wooden, but better than might be expected, the actors gain more and more credibility in the course of the story. The movie still works best, when a fight is involved. The fights are pretty good and professional, my compliments to the choreographers and the actors.
If it wouldn't have been for the unintentional funny inserts the film would have been terribly dull, director Johannes Jaeger doesn't reach his obvious role models. This is part due to the limited budget, but a good and intelligent story can be told with a small budget. A small film can also be great. This one sadly tries to imitate instead of innovate.
