I enjoyed it, so shoot me

This film seems to have a lot of negative reviews and it is fair to say that there are many problems. For example, the film contains a couple of sepia tinted freak out sequences that are just ugly to watch. Also, the acting is of a generally low standard, some of the characters are real irritating and the cameo by Shaun Hutson epitomises pointless and stupid. I say this even though I greatly enjoyed his novels as a kid. Tom Savini has a weird watchability though, even if he can't act. The pacing is uneven, with a nice opening followed by a long stretch of not much good. This all sounds very negative, but there was a fair amount that pleased me in the film. The gore moments were gnarly and effective, and though more would have been handy, whats there is satisfying. Also, the murderous nymph creatures made for a beautiful and compelling enemy and the occasional erotic situations mixed with attacks were a happy departure from generic evil in the woods movies. Also, once Tom Savini arrived on the scene the film went from slightly dull to wholly watchable, and the flaws of the film just began to give it a mildly humorous bad but entertaining vibe. So in my book, bad but worth a shot if you see it on the cheap.
