Faris, Aykroyd, and Timberlake in ‘Yogi Bear’

6 November 2009 12:55 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd, and Justin Timberlake are in negotiations for Warner Bros’ live-action/CGI hybrid feature Yogi Bear.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Faris will play Rachel, a nature documentary filmmaker shooting Yogi and Boo-Boo for her next project.  Though her last movie was voice work for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Faris’ character will be a live-action performance.

Aykroyd will lend the voice of Yogi Bear, the picnic basket-stealing menace to Jellystone Park.  Timberlake will provide the vocals for Boo-Boo, his bow-tied sidekick.  Both bears are expected to remain pantless.  No word on which lucky actor gets to play the Park Ranger.  Is Jason Lee available for a paycheck?

WB is planning to shoot it in New Zealand next month with director Eric Bravig (Journey to the Center of the Earth).  I bet you can’t wait to hear the range Timberlake exhibits in this one.  Shrek the Third »

Dan Aykroyd, Anna Faris and Justin Timberlake Join Yogi Bear

6 November 2009 7:45 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Live action/CG family comedies for everyone! That's right, yet another hybrid animated film is moving forward this week, with the announcement of some pretty big names entering discussions for the Warner Brothers adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear. It looks like the studio has found voices for both Yogi and Boo-Boo, plus an actress for their first live action role. According to Variety [1], Dan Aykroyd is currently in talks to headline the film as the mischievous bear Yogi, while musician turned actor Justin Timberlake will play his faithful sidekick Boo-Boo. Anna Faris will play a documentary filmmaker who comes to Jellystone Park. Aykroyd in particular seems like a solid choice, although I'm wondering whether or not Timberlake will try to put on a cartoony voice or just be himself (he previously voiced a character in Shrek the Third). The Yogi Bear script was written by the same »

Dan Aykroyd: Not Your Average Bear

5 November 2009 7:19 PM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Following the trend of classic books and cartoons finding their way to the big screen, everyone’s favorite pic-a-nic basket stealing bear is making his way from the animated forest of Jellystone to a theater near you.

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Hanna-Barbera’s Yogi Bear, and will be turning the cartoon into a feature film that combines live-action and CG.

Currently in talks to be part of the film are Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd, and Justin Timberlake.

Faris will play the role of a filmmaker making a nature documentary who roams through Jellystone park to catch the antics of Yogi, and Timberlake could likely be the voice behind Boo Boo, Yogi’s faithful sidekick.

Aykroyd will be providing the voice of Jellystone’s main attraction, Yogi Bear himself.

This is not the first voice-over role for either Aykroyd or Timberlake. Aykroyd was the voice of Chip in »

The World Series, Hideki Matsui and Mariah Carey In Today's Twitter-Wood

5 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Yankees supporters were out in force last night, and a few Twitter-Wood citizens were right by the field uploading pics. Brody Stevens may have shot the most enviable of the day, apparently getting soon-to-be-mvp Hideki Matsui in the dugout before the game. Jeremy Piven caught another high-quality photo-op, though, standing with his fellow Chicagoan Brian Urlacher.

Poor John Favreau was stuck in the editing room for "Iron Man 2," though, which he noted on his account. Larry King, Eliza Dushku and other added their thoughts after Phillies finally went down. Check out all of their tweets, along with Brett Ratner's pic with Mariah Carey after wrapping her video and Andy Milonakis. They're all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 5, 2009.

More Voices for ‘Puss in Boots’

5 November 2009 2:57 PM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

If you’re a fan of the Shrek movies, then you already know that a fourth film, Shrek Forever After, is set to hit theaters in May of next year. What you may not know is that the Shrek franchise has its first spin-off film in the works.

The new film, Puss in Boots, wil focus on–you guessed it–Puss in Boots, the would-be assassin turned sidekick introduced in Shrek II. The movie about the little orange cat will follow Puss’s adventures prior to his meeting Shrek and Donkey.

Antonio Banderas will reprise his role as Puss in Boots, with Salma Hayek starring alongside him as the voice of “Kitty.” As the film moves forward, negotiations are taking place for the casting of other characters in the film.

Currently, Zach Galifianakis, who played the lovable but slightly-off Alan in this summer’s The Hangover, is in talks to »

Roger Rabbit 2: Two-Dimensional Toons & CGI Humans?

5 November 2009 12:57 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Don’t act like you’re surprised. You knew this announcement was coming from the moment we first heard that director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) was making a sequel to his 1988 smash hit, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It was just a matter of time, really. With three Mocap (that’s the new slang for “motion-capture”, Fyi) films already under his belt – Polar Express, Beowulf, and A Christmas Carol – it was a natural leap of thought to assume Zemeckis would use his favorite new toy in a Roger Rabbit sequel.

However, it appears that the Toon characters (Roger, Jessica, Benny the Cab) will not be the ones making the leap into the 21st century. According to his interview with MTV, Zemeckis doesn’t plan on using Mocap for those characters, just the human ones (as if that makes it any better). Read what he had to say below:

Casting Tidbits: Alan Cumming, Zach Galifianakis & Many More

5 November 2009 9:36 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Casting Tidbits Activate! First up, THR reports that Zach Galifianakis is continuing his hot hiring streak, but this time only his voice will be needed as he's entered negotiations to provide the voice for Humpty Dumpty in the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots at DreamWorks Animation. He joins Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in a story about the events leading up to the feline assassin's first meeting with Shrek in the second installment of the DreamWorks franchise. Chris Miller (Shrek the Third) will be directing from Tom Wheeler's script, but I'm hoping that there's still some remnants of Brian Lynch's earlier draft of the script. Red Just yesterday Helen Mirren joined up with Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis in the Robert Schwentke directed espionage thriller, and today THR's Heat Vision reports John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) and Mary-Louise Parker (of Showtime's "Weeds") are also set to join them. »

Zach Galifianakis To Voice Humpty Dumpty In ‘Puss In Boots’

5 November 2009 7:44 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis is certainly making a name for himself as of late: after starring in the $461 million comedy smash hit this summer, he has garnered himself a slew of roles (which is unsurprising – he was hilarious in The Hangover), the latest of which is voicing children’s nursery rhyme character, Humpty Dumpty, in the upcoming Shrek spin-off movie, Puss In Boots.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Galifianakis is in talks to voice Humpty Dumpty, and if cast he’ll be joining the voice of Puss In Boots himself, Antonio Banderas, as well as Salma Hayek who’s voicing “Kitty.” The spin-off will be written by Tom Wheeler, and will be a prequel (an origin story, we’ve heard) leading up to the feisty feline’s meeting-up with Shrek and Co. in Shrek 2.

Zach Galifianakis in Talks to Play Humpty Dumpty in Shrek Spin-Off

5 November 2009 7:21 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

It can be a painful thing to watch an edgy and fresh comedic talent get sucked into the black hole of Hollywood, but I can't be truly disappointed with any choices that Zach Galifianakis makes. I'm still just overjoyed to see the guy's career take off, and it's kind of fun to see him in some of these big family blockbusters like G-Force. I just hope he never stops taking risks and making the quirky little films on the side. That being said, you can't help but wince when you hear that he is currently in talks to voice the character Humpty Dumpty in the upcoming Shrek spin-off, Puss in Boots. The Shrek franchise has turned into a behemoth over the years, and Puss in Boots would actually be the fifth major film in the series. There is also a Shrek 4 on the way (now titled Shrek Forever After »

Hangover star cracking his eggshell in Shrek spinoff

5 November 2009 12:49 AM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Zach Galifianakis could crack his own egg if his negotiations are successful to star as the talking and future broken shelled Humpty Dumpty in Puss-in-Boots, the spinoff CG movie based on Antonio Banderas' supporting swashbuckling feline from the last two Shrek films.

Originally planned as a direct-to-dvd movie, DreamWorks has now bumped up the budget and made it a feature film slated for a November 4, 2011 release. In the film we'll see what Puss-in-Boots was up to before he met up with Shrek and Donkey in Shrek 2. Salma Hayek has already been cast in the animated film which is being directed by Chris Miller (co-director of Shrek the Third.)

The Humpty Dumpty character won't be appearing in Shrek Goes Fourth, the green ogre's next film which is slated for a May 21, 2010 opening. »

Zach Galifianakis Eying Humpty Dumpty in Shrek Spinoff Puss in Boots

4 November 2009 10:24 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Because the world can never get enough Shrek, we've known for some time that an upcoming spinoff film, Puss in Boots, has been in the works. Now it seems like things are finally moving forward. The increasingly bankable Zach Galifianakis is currently in talks to voice Humpty Dumpty. He'll be joining Antonio Banderas as the title character, and Salma Hayek as "Kitty" (this is their post-Robert Rodriguez reunion?!). The film will cover the feline's adventures before Shrek 2. Tom Wheeler is covering the screenwriting duties, and Shrek the Third co-writer/co-director Chris Miller is directing. And if that's not enough Shrek-verse for you, don't forget that the hotly anticipated Shrek Forever After is still slated to hit on May 21, 2010. Puss will also show up in that film, which will surely make 2010 the dream year for the small subset of Antonio Banderas obsessed Furries. For a series that's rich »

Zach Galifianakis to Voice Humpty Dumpty in "Puss in Boots!"

4 November 2009 10:07 PM, PST | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Zach Galifianakis is having a great year thanks to the $461 million box office goldmine "The Hangover." Now, he's set to voice Humpty Dumpty in the "Shrek" spinoff "Puss in Boots."

As we told you in January, Tom Wheeler is writing the screenplay. Antonio Banderas is set to return to voice the beloved fierce feline which is great news because the actor did a terrific job with this character. He's the most memorable one for me, sorry Donkey!

Salma Hayek joins Banderas and Galifianakis to tell the story of the events leading up to Puss' first meeting with Shrek and company in the second film. It's a prequel of sorts.

Chris Miller, who co-directed and co-wrote "Shrek the Third," is set to direct the animated flicks. He also wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay.

"Puss in Boots" will meow into theaters Nov. 4th of 2011, but prior to that, we'll see »

Zemeckis Developing 'Roger Rabbit Sequel'

31 October 2009 7:10 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

It was somewhat surprising that Robert Zemeckis mentioned earlier this year that he might be working on a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit He's been pushing technology forward for several years with his motion-capture movies like The Polar Express, Beowulf, and next week's A Christmas Carol, so returning to a story he told back in 1988 seemed like a strange decision...unless he was going to do motion-capture for that, too.

Zemeckis is talking again, telling MTV that this thing is definitely happening. "There's a script that's being developed," he revealed, adding, "We've got the original writers that are working on it now — Seaman and Price."

Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price adapted Gary Wolf's novel, and have worked on a few big projects since, like How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Shrek the Third. I had no problems with the original screenplay, so this is probably a good place to start, »

DVD Playhouse—October 2009

By

Allen Gardner

The Wizard Of Oz 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’S Edition (Warner Bros.) A true highlight in digital restoration technology, Warner Bros. restoration of the 1939 classic is cause for celebration. The Technicolor of the late ‘30s looks as though it was shot yesterday, and is especially stunning on Blu-ray, which was produced by scanning each of the film’s original Technicolor camera negatives using 8K resolution. From this scan, a final “capture” master was created in 4K, yielding twice the resolution seen in the master utilized for the film’s previous DVD release. Judy Garland’s Dorothy is charming as ever, and the entire cast: Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley and Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch, are all stellar. Four disc set bonuses include: Sing-along track; Documentaries and featurettes; Two 1914 silent films produced by Oz author L. Frank Baum, based on his stories »
