Trivia:
Teasers for the show, seen on some Cartoon Network videos and DVDs, reveal that it was originally going to have a very different look and feel. They show very jerky animation and no shading. Ami has ponytails instead of buns, and Yumi has a fang sticking out of her mouth. moreQuotes:

Once upon a time you could actually watch cartoon network, because you were...let's say 8 years old and the cartoons were actually worth watching. "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Dexter's laboratory" used to be my favourites when I was little, but what do we have now? Both of those shows have changed their animation styles and sadly the episodes have gone either pointless or totally lame. I mean come on...I happened to see a PPG episode the other day and it was about the girls wetting their beds.
Anyway, times have changed and new different shows have been added to CN's schedule. one of them is "Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi". At first it seemed a nice idea to turn 2 Japanese singers into a cartoon. But what is the main goal of this cartoon? To introduce Japanese pop to American and European kids or just make some money fast? Sadly all the new cartoons that are produced are completely pointless. The cartooned versions of Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura are probably nothing like the real people. In my opinion, the only things they have alike, are their names. The real Ami and Yumi are supposed to be around 30, but in the cartoon they seem like 12-year olds. Even that Kaz guy is nothing like he's supposed to be in real life. This show has been made too watchable for American girls. What about real-life situations(being kidnapped by aliens or working in a candy factory to pay the rent of their tour bus are not real-life situations!!!)? What about real Japanese accents? And why on earth do they have round eyes? Amy is such a goody-goody. What has she got to do with rock music? She should quit the band and team up with Britney. Now that would be an episode. And Yumi has been made into this depressed serious rocker. Yeah, I know that young people think that being goth is cool. Characters like that are bound to be the favourites of many girls(and boys?), because they're sooooo goth. Get over it! Characters like Mandy, Raven and Yumi are depressing, because they never smile. Don't copy them! Being goth is not cool! Especially when you're only doing it because of others around you. Just get over that I'm-so-depressed-and-so-cool thing. Happyness, kids, happiness! I'm done here. If you like it then watch it, but it's just as pointless as other new cartoons they produce.
