starts OK, loses ground pretty quickly though

Has anyone ever thought of making a horror movie that's consistently good from beginning to end? Not any more, apparently. Devour starts out with a young man that suffers from waking nightmares, and as it goes along he finds out why he's having these waking nightmares, and it has something to do with a computer reality game, at least, sort of. Along the way his friends and family pile up like cord wood. Turns out that he might have something to do with some evil cult that was stopped from doing evil things years ago but is now gaining strength again. Bummer. Some of this isn't bad, and the rest of it is merely mediocre straight-to-video horror. There isn't a "normal" unattractive or merely homely person in the movie, which is one of my biggest gripes about movies anymore....not everybody looks perfect. I got this as a result of a "4 for $20" sale at a local video store and I had three I really wanted and needed one to get the sale price though, so for that I suppose it's not that bad. The price tag for the new DVD though is certainly not worth it. If you REALLY want to see this, still, just rent it or buy it used. It is better than a lot of what passes for horror these days but it's no prize. 6 out of 10.
