  • Kiefer Sutherland had to practice roaring like a lion. Instead of doing it in his home with his two daughters around, he practiced in his car driving on the freeway, completely unaware of a woman in the next lane watching him.

  • This is the biggest movie ever produced in Canada. Over 400 animators were put in a large building to work on the film.

  • Screenplay ideas were being written dating all the way back to 1991.

  • In the part where the animals are in the garbage truck you can see a sign advertising Radio Disney and another advertising for Kodak. There is also an advertisement of a theater showing the Lion King on stage when they are being chased by dogs.

  • The ship in the film is named the "Hannah W" after director Steve 'Spaz' Williams' daughter, Hannah.

  • The line by Kazar, "Step, kick, pivot, kick, walk, walk, walk" is a parody of the line from A Chorus Line (1985) which goes "back step, pivot step, walk, walk, walk!", from the song "I Hope I Get It".

  • Two boats in the New York harbor scene, "The Lily Maia" and the "Nicolai" are named after production designer Chris Farmer's daughter Lily and the producer's son Nick.

  • The voice of the Hyrax - the animal Samson considers eating - was provided by a member of the film's production team, who was known for breaking into the Hyrax's faux-British accent from time to time. The DVD release of the film includes a featurette on the crewmember-turned-voice actor.
