The stars were up early for the Hollywood Reporter's annual Women in Entertainment breakfast this morning in La. Both Halle Berry and Eva Longoria were back in town after traveling to opposite corners of the country for their various philanthropic causes. Halle was in NYC to raise money for abused women while Eva traveled to Miami to entertain children with cancer. Hilary Swank, meanwhile, just traveled to California after celebrating her Million Dollar Baby director Clint Eastwood at an event back East. The actresses were able to give something back during their get-together, announcing a new plan to spearhead a new mentoring program with Big Brothers Big Sisters. NYC's Museum of the Moving Image hosted Hollywood's finest last night at its Salute to Clint Eastwood event. Clint himself hit the red carpet alongside Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman after recently directing them both in Invictus. Hilary Swank, who worked with Clint in Million Dollar Baby, joined the boys as she posed for photos in her blue dress. Matt was coming off another afternoon on the set of The Adjustment Bureau, looking dapper in his tux alongside his wife Luciana. Despite his long days filming, Matt is managing to keep his nightlife schedule jam-packed - and we caught up with him recently at his premiere of The People Speak. One project Matt might not be starting anytime soon is a fourth Bourne Identity film, since the series' director, Paul Greengrass, has dropped out of the project and Damon's participation may now be in question. On February 16, 2010, Warner Bros. is planning to release a 19-disc collection of 35 films that were either acted, directed, or both, by Clint Eastwood. The package is entitled “Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years at Warner Bros.,” and will contain features that span from 1968’s Where Eagles Dare to last year’s Gran Torino. The 35th film will be a short documentary by film critic Richard Schickel called “The Eastwood Factor,” which is a play on the original title for Invictus, which was “The Human Factor.”
“I’ve known Clint for most of the time he’s been at Warner Bros.,” said Schickel. “I was fortunate to be able to wander around the Warner lot with him and hear his reminiscences. To be able to show him in the places where he works and lives and feels most comfortable is, I think, a unique opportunity.”
The package has a beginning price of »

Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya? You should, if you’re a Clint Eastwood fan, because Warner Brothers has announced the forthcoming release of a massive retrospective box set of his work at the studio. Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years at Warner Bros. is set to hit stores Feb. 16 at $179.98, and will cover a large swathe of the squinting icon’s filmography, from 1968’s Where Eagles Dare to last year’s Gran Torino (which by my fifth-grade math skills, is 40 years, but I’m not complaining). It will also include Eastwood Factor, a documentary on the filmmaker by Time magazine critic Richard Schickel. »

So you've got The Dirty Harry Collection, The Man with No Name Trilogy and maybe one of the other previously released Clint Eastwood DVD box sets, but still you need more. More Clint. Well, you must be feeling pretty lucky, punk, because Warner Brothers have just announced plans to release a rather insane collection of Clint Eastwood's films early next year. Clint Eastwood: 35 Films 35 Years at Warner Bros will be a 19-disc set that covers all of his movies released through Warner Brothers between 1968 and 2008, starting with Where Eagles Dare and ending with Gran Torino. This is the kind of thing you usually only see years after someone has passed away, but we all know that Eastwood is still going strong. It's too bad they couldn't get this thing ready in time for Christmas though because I'm sure a lot of dads would probably love to see this under their tree. »

In a pretty amazing (and lucrative) move, it has been announced by Warner Bros. that Clint Eastwood’s back catalogue is going to be available as a giant collection. Details of what is being included remain sketchy, but it starts at the war classic Where Eagles Dare and finishes at Gran Torino. That’s a lot of movies in between. Eastwood, now in his twilight years, but still going strong is one of American cinema’s most brilliant filmmakers. The collection is entitled: “Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years at Warner Bros.” Awesome.
Extras include a feature-length documentary by Richard Schikel, a booklet, plus many more! The boxset, at least the Region 1 edition, is out February 16th and costs a fistful of dollars. As it’s very close to Valentine’s Day: Ladies, nothing says “I love you” like an entire collection of Clint Eastwood flicks.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Warner Home Video is planning to release a comprehensive DVD collection devoted to Clint Eastwood. Entitled "Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years at Warner Bros," the 19-disc set will be available in February and will include both Eastwood's acting efforts and directorial efforts, including recent projects like Gran Torino and Million Dollar Baby.
The set will also feature a documentary with commentary by noted critic Richard Schickel, who spoke with the press about the release.

As comprehensive as the collection is, it will still be out of date very quickly. Eastwood, »

Updated: Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere has posted his review as well. His thoughts are listed at the bottom of this post.
I will be seeing Clint Eastwood's Invictus on December 7, but it has already started screening in New York and Los Angeles and while many critics are being told to hold their tongue a few have been allowed to let the cat out of the bag.
The film is described as the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team (Damon) to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa's underdog rugby team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match.

If you held out faint hope that Hugh Jackman wouldn't be helping Shawn Levy box robots, and would abandon it for a feature film adaptation of A Steady Rain, kiss it goodbye now. Variety reports that DreamWorks' Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider have green-lit Real Steel, making it the studio's first big financial project since it split with Paramount, and had to find its own money.
Spielberg was attached to the project as executive producer when it was first announced, and it seems that it's been a real passion project for him. DreamWorks bought the project back in 2005, and it was one of the films they held onto after splitting from Paramount. "When we took it with us, we really highlighted it as something we would put the pedal to metal on," said DreamWorks co-president of production Mark Sourian. "It's a project that Steven always wanted to do. It just »

Hilary Swank exercises to see how far she can push her body. The 'Million Dollar Baby' star always makes time for her work-outs because she considers it as essential as eating or breathing. She said: "I love getting the opportunity to recognise what your body's capable of. Being an athlete is something I enjoy. I don't even think of not exercising. It's like the air you breathe and the food and water you need." The 35-year-old beauty says she was inspired to work out more after becoming mesmerised by the muscular form of African tribe members. She explained: "You see these incredible bodies in Africa that are all muscle. They're running to hunt in these tribes. And you think, »

Hilary Swank is not bitter over her divorce from Chad Lowe - she insists they will remain best friends forever.
The Oscar-winning actress and Lowe met in 1992 on the set of Quiet Days in Hollywood, and wed in a lavish ceremony in 1997.
They announced their split in 2006 and the former couple has since moved on - Lowe welcomed his first daughter with girlfriend Kim Painter in May, while Swank is now dating her agent, John Campisi.
But the Million Dollar Baby star still cherishes the time she spent with her ex-husband.
She says, "It's really such a part of the past, it's over now, so there's no sense in diving back into that. He'll always be one of my best friends. You know, you can't spend 14 years with someone and not carry them in your heart forever." »

Yesterday I sat down once again to watch Martin Scorsese’s 1980 masterpiece Raging Bull, taking my viewings somewhere into double figures. I consider it to be the director’s finest film (just edging out Mean Streets), and De Niro’s titular Bull, Jake Lamotta, the actor’s premier performance. It is a film that exercises an extraordinary hold, drawing me in time and again in search of new meaning. And it never fails to deliver. But as the credits role I always ask myself the same question: “Why does the film industry have such an abiding love affair with the sweet science?” Like a punch-drunk journeyman surviving on a mix of experience, gut instinct and crude reflex, the fight film, despite its often indelicate and rough-edged familiarity, continues to bewitch filmmakers and confound audiences with an Ali-esque dexterity. Following the success of "The Bucket List" in 2007, Academy Award recipient Morgan Freeman is ready to plunge himself into another comedy movie for Warner Bros. Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 72-year-old is attached to star in an untitled comedy spec by Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge which working title is "Dirty Old Men".
Set to serve as the project's executive producer, Freeman will take on the role of the best man and wingman of an aging playboy and does everything he can to break up the playboy from the love of his life. THR further pointed out the likelihood of him re-teaming with "Bucket" co-star Jack Nicholson, though noting that the latter is yet to be attached.
"Dirty Old Men" is said to be developed in the vein of "Wedding Crashers" and "The 40 Year-Old Virgin". Peter Segal eyes to direct with Kevin McCormick and Jesse Ehrman overseeing for the studio. »

Hilary Swank plays the legendary aviator Amelia Earhart in Amelia. And although, as I said in my review, the movie is earthbound, the choice of Swank in the title role demonstrates sky-clear thinking. (Okay, that's enough of the windblown aeronautical metaphors.) Physically, the two are twins, and not just because Swank has been coiffed in Earhart's striking, trademark, short-haired tousle, a variation on Winnie the Pooh's Christopher Robin. Rather, both women project a seductive androgyny-a boyishness that nevertheless leaves no doubt about the sexuality of the woman wearing the trousers. True, Swank first found fame as a girl living as »

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
The old joke is that all actors want to direct. Though it’s maybe not true of all, I still had plenty to choose from in making this list. The directors on this list all started life as actors, some still are, but I’d argue that they’re better known as directors. This month, two well known actresses have tried their hand at direction, Drew Barrymore with Whip It (which was a great movie, I have no idea why it did so badly) and Natalie Portman doing a segment of New York I Love You. Who knows, maybe one (or both) has a second career around the corner.

Recap: A portrait of family in crisis when a woman (Gena Rowlands) goes mad and her husband (Peter Falk) tries to understand it.
