Orci and Kurtzman Not Returning To Write Transformers 3

7 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (The Island, The Legend of Zorro, Mission: Impossible III), after writing the first two, will not be returning to the script duties for “Transformers 3.”

Orci made a post on the Don Murphy forum saying he and Kurtzman won’t be involved with the third film. That means that Ehren Kruger (Scream 3, The Ring, The Ring Two, The Brothers Grimm), who also worked on the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen script, will be going it alone on part three, laboring under the iron fist of director Michael Bay.

Orci wrote,

“He (Ehren Kruger) really did his homework. He’s awesome.”

Director Michael Bay recently confirmed that plans were in motion for a Transformers 3 and that he and actress Megan Fox would be returning.

Is Michael Bay the Death of Cinema?

28 September 2009 11:01 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Michael Bay's influence on films is undeniable, but in most cases his influence has inspired others toward comedy. "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone delivered Team America: World Police, which was just as much a visual slam on Jerry Bruckheimer films as it was Bay, and they did it again in an episode of "South Park" (watch here). "Robot Chicken" took their own spin on Bay with "Baysplosions" seen to the right and Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg used the director's flashy editing and often used action choreography to bring us Hot Fuzz. Everyone gets the joke, and it's funny, but what has it done for his public image and people's opinions/expectations of his films? I ask this based on a comment left on my posting of the teaser trailer for the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake where someone wrote, "Michael Bay will be the death of cinema. »

Discuss: Does Going Nude Help Actresses' Careers?

26 September 2009 7:00 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Actors and actresses make big sacrifices for their movies all the time. Christian Bale dropped down to a frail 120 lbs for "The Machinist," Natalie Portman shaved her head for "V for Vendetta," and Jamie Foxx chipped his teeth for "The Soloist." But getting nude onscreen still seems to be the ultimate move an actor or actress can make. Demi Moore (Striptease), Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls) and Jessica Biel (Powder Blue) have done it, but it has hardly made an impact on their careers since the films were so terrible. But Halle Berry's famous "Monster's Ball" sex scene (and her "acting") won her an Oscar and Viggo Mortensen's nude fight sequence earned him a nomination. Filmmakers claim that occasional nudity can be important to a movie's plot and the character's development, but there is no doubt that they know that it also helps box office numbers and can generate enormous buzz for their projects. »

Bad Boys 3? Hell naw!

31 August 2009 1:36 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

After the release of the original Transformers, I was riding high on a Michael Bay resurgence. Though he was responsible for what I consider one of the worst action movies I've ever seen (Armageddon), I felt some of his later entries (The Island, Transformers, that Verizon commercial) showed a relative degree of maturity. But then came Transformers 2. Now I don't want to hate on anyone who liked this movie but frankly it just destroyed any notion of a Bay renaissance. Clearly the director... »

Scarlett Johansson on Iron Man 2

20 August 2009 9:44 AM, PDT | www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news »

If Scarlett Johansson didn.t get much credit for action heroics in The Island, The Perfect Score or Eight Legged Freaks, her superheroine turn in Iron Man 2 certainly won.t be ignored. She will play Black Widow, and her alter ego Natasha Romanoff, from the Marvel comics.

Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man 2

.I think that the character is sort of a shape shifter,. Johansson said. .It was sort of like playing two different characters. One character is more kind of mysterious, I don.t want to say submissive, but she.s blending in with the crowd I suppose. The other part of this character is someone who is assertive and knows their sh*t. She.s able to just say, .I.m going to fight this head on.. For me, being able to have that kind of feeling, being able to be competent enough to sell it, »

Five Reasons Star Trek is Cooler Than Star Wars

Five Reasons Star Trek is Now Cooler Than Star Wars Remember back in early 1999 when Star Wars was still cool and you couldn’t wait for the prequels? After decades of teasing, new Star Wars movies were about to hit the big screen and anticipation was palpable. Pictures from set in Vanity Fair revealed Ewan McGregor in the trademark brown robes, the menacing red and black face paint of Darth Maul and those iconic green and red lightsabers glowing for the first time in decades. Fanboys hearts went aflutter, some going so far as to camp outside the theater for weeks beforehand. Finally, Star Wars was about to make its triumphant return!

Princess Leia?

And then the bubble burst. Phantom Menace hit screens in May of 1999 and something just wasn’t quite right. It was long and slow-moving; it had a racially questionable, highly annoying »

Never Let Me Go: A Showcase of top British talents- Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan star!

7 August 2009 6:29 AM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

It's inevitable that someone would compare the upcoming movie adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go with the Michael Bay 'mishap and flop' science-fiction film, The Island, starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanson. Why the comparison? One term: cloning. But the similarity (it's actually common denominator) ends there.

- - -

- - - Says someone at the IMDb board who managed to convey the same feelings as I, with regards to the comparison:

The novel was actually published around the same time the movie The Island came out in 2005, so it's unlikely either of them had any influence on the other. Never Let Me Go is, of course, nothing like a Michael Bay movie.

Some movie fans, by their very nature, would certainly not stop there, and remain adamant in their "comparative analysis". Of course, moviegoers who prefer the likes of The Remains of the Day (also »

New pictures from ‘Iron Man 2′

22 July 2009 8:10 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Marvel has recently released a batch of new pictures from its upcoming metal-head movie Iron Man 2.  Returning are Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow along with Don Cheadle who replaces Terrance Howard as Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes.

The sequel to one of 2008’s biggest movies, Iron Man, also stars Scarlett Johansson. Johansson (He’s Just Not That Into You, The Island) plays 24-year-old Natasha Romanoff, “Stark’s mysterious new assistant,” whose alter ego is Black Widow. Hired by Tony Stark, her…um, qualifications is causing a strain between Stark and his new CEO and gal pal Pepper Potts (Paltrow).

In the pictures we can see Johansson handling paperwork, Cheadle in what looks to be a Senate hearing and Paltrow getting all up in Downey’s grill. She’s also sporting an Iron Man glove in one image which may giveaway key plot points. Or…maybe not.

Iron Man 2: It’s a Wrap!

20 July 2009 9:26 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Those of you waiting with bated breath for the return of Ol’ Shellhead (a.k.a. Iron Man) your hours of white-knuckled anticipation will soon be coming to an end. After 72 days of intensive shooting, Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige announced the wrap of principle photography on Iron Man 2 with a statement to Marvel.com:

Shooting ‘Iron Man 2′ was a fantastic experience and we couldn’t be happier. Although there were many challenges in making this film, having Jon Favreau, Robert Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow and almost the entire crew from the first film back on board, allowed us to hit the ground running as everyone was instantly familiar with each other from day one. This dynamic allowed us to get done what we needed on a day to day basis and was a big factor in why we finished slightly ahead of schedule. Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell »

Who is Mike Bay?

1 July 2009 8:20 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

So much has been made of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and its director Michael Bay. Some view him as the genius behind Bad Boys and others view him as the king of porking playmates. My cousin's best friend sees him as the fake-tanned dude who ruined The Island, but my sister's piano teacher's butcher sees him as the man who gave Megan Fox a career. How do the faithful users of IMDb see him? Check it out below. »

Alex Kurtzman And Roberto Orci Nab A ‘License To Steal’

29 June 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The rascally writing/producing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are at it again. Those dudes must be vampires or something; they certainly don’t sleep, not with the rate at which they drop joy bombs in TV and film. Before diving in with their new hotness, let’s rattle off a list: “ransformers: Revenge of the Fallen“; “The Proposal“; “Star Trek“; “Mission: Impossible III”; “The Island”; TV’s “Fringe” and “Alias.”

Yeah, they’re busy. That’s not even counting the dozen or so projects they have currently in various stages of development/production. And they’ve just added one more to the mix: “License to Steal,” an action-comedy loosely based on a Salon.com article. Kurtzman and Orci will produce for Paramount.

Variety reports that “Armageddon” and “Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem” writer Shane Salerno will deliver the script. The story will be loosely adapted from a pair of Marc Weingarten articles on Salon. »

Scenes We Love: The Island

Us critics, we don't hate Michael Bay. Well, not all of us, and not all the time. I wasn't a fan of his Transformers, nor Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and I haven't watched The Rock or Armageddon in their entirety in years, but I distinctly enjoyed 2005's The Island during its ill-fated theatrical run (gross: $35 million, cost: between three and four times that), and I still do as a decent sci-fi/action matinee outing.

But how?, I've been asked. It does after all bear every other trademark of a Michael Bay outing: explosions, rampant product placement, blatant racial stereotypes, explosions, perpetual dusk lighting, explosions, and a female lead constantly flattered by her wardrobe (yeah, a real woe-is-us scenario).Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Thrillers, Trailers and Clips, Scenes We Love

He Said (Bayer)

Two and a half hours? Two and a half hours. Sigh. Out of all the bad decisions I think that is the worst. Forget about the Fallen being a knock-off of Emperor, which would make Megatron, Darth Vader, that’s nothing compared to being completely exhausted by the length. »

[Movie Review] Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

24 June 2009 2:55 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Of all the things you can screw up when making a Transformers movie, from logic to story to mythological accuracy, nothing would be more offensive than making it boring. That would be fundamentally against the very reason for a Transformers movie to exist. In this purposely silly franchise, Michael Bay was handed the goose that lays golden eggs. Finally, a legitimate reason for his brand of loud stupidity. No one expected more out of Transformers than a vacuous experience wherein the primary excitement is in seeing giant robots slug it out. In a way, that's what I found most enjoyable about the first movie. Its lack of pretense minimizes the potential to torture anybody's good sense the way Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and The Island did.

It took seeing the sequel to realize that there is a skilled craft behind Transformers that made it work even as a whirring, sputtering, exploding display of CGI wankery. »

Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Jun 24, 2009   Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a jaw-droppingly awful movie, a piece of loud, cluttered, stupid junk that stands below any that the often criticized Michael Bay has ever directed. Consider that all the warning that you probably need. If you have never felt cheated by movies like The Island, Pearl Harbor, or Bad Boys II, then Revenge of the Fallen has a chance of delivering what you need, but the rest of you should take your least satisfying Bay experience and turn it up to eleven and that will approximate how you ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com »

Tonight's the big night. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will premiere in thousands of theaters at midnight across the country. If you haven't been to La, you probably haven't ever seen entire buildings turned into billboards. There is some crazy advertising out here - and obviously it spreads to other big cities like Las Vegas. Tlamb (via SlashFilm) has posted a few photos of the iconic Luxor Hotel in Vegas wrapped with a giant Optimus Prime. The best part is what it looks like at night lit up (see below). Not to be geeky, but beyond the eyes, the glowing pyramid has multiple meanings, too (once you see the movie). Don't forget that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has at least three full scenes shot in IMAX! Top 11 Bayhems

With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opening this week, it seems time to take a look back at the critical punching bag career of Michael Bay. Outside of The Rock, Bad Boys and Transformers people have destroyed and tarnished his films. While Pearl Harbor is undoubtedly one of the worst things to happen to humanity, Bay takes too much blame for films that are otherwise purely and greatly entertaining. The guy knows what he’s making and outside of that film we shall not mention, he never parades them as “the most important film in the history of cinema making.” His flicks cater to the twelve year-old inside us all that wants to kill the villain in the worst possible way or go up and save the world on an asteroid (and really, when you’re twelve, do you care about the science of it all or blowing up the asteroid and being a hero? »

Michael Bay: 'I've had enough of Transformers'

18 June 2009 12:06 PM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Michael Bay says this weekend's new release Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be the last film he makes in the robot franchise.

The director is reported as saying he needs a break from the explosive action movies and is tired of being savaged by critics for his film-making style.

According to WENN, Bay (pictured above) said: "It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France.

"But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie."

A third movie in the series was greenlit in March, with a release date of July 1, 2011. But it seems studio bosses will have to find another filmmaker.

Bay said: "After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world.

Whoa, Cool New Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Poster

3 June 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Another cool new poster for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has debuted over on Empire. As was the case back in 2007, in the last few weeks leading up to its release, posters for Transformers started to pop up left and right (this was my favorite). The most impressive ones seem to be the ones that Paramount is not officially using, even though Empire is calling this the "final" poster (which this one was referred to as well). Yes, this looks a bit Photoshopped, but I think it's a much more dynamic design than the terribly cheesy floating-heads plus random pyramid-in-the-foreground other final poster. Check this out below! Don't forget that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has at least three full scenes shot in IMAX! Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is again directed by action film superstar Michael Bay of Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island, and Transformers previously. »
