This has been a bad holiday season for untimely deaths around Hollywood, and none have been more unexpected than actress Brittany Murphy's on Sunday. Alyssa Milano, Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton and virtually everyone else with a Twitter account associated with the entertainment industry has something to say about Murphy, and there's a rundown below.
The other big nationwide news of the past weekend has been the massive snowstorm pounding the East Coast. "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos was one of those who had her travel plans derailed by the frozen precipitation dump, on Washington, D.C. You can find those posts after jump along with Fred Durst's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" clan name and Neil Gaiman's undead lawn ornament. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for December 21, 2009. (Editor's note: You'll see some crossover between this post and our earlier Brittany Murphy tweet round-up. That's okay... this is a »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.
"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...
@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

"New Moon" stars Christian Serratos and Edi Gathegi appear to be taking their conversations about gummi bear attacks off Twitter and over to a private phone conversation, for whatever that's worth. There may be some obstacles between them and this fated phone call, but they sound like they want to strike out against the odds and make it work.
In more substantive tweets, Paris Hilton has a beef with the delayed police response she says her sister Nicky received after her home was broken into Tuesday. Check out what she posted after the jump along with David Wain's take on Tiger Woods' situation, some behind-the-scenes looks at "Toy Story 3" and the "Up in the Air" DVD and James Gunn's cinematographer's impressive gear. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 9, 2009.

Two bit of casting news this week: Rashida Jones, the charming and delightful co-star of NBC’s “The Office”, has landed a role in David Fincher’s social networking movie called, well, “Social Network”. She joins a cast that includes Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg, and revolves around the founders of the social-networking website Facebook and their less-than-amicable split. Aaron Sorkin wrote the script, with Fincher directing. Over at thriller land, Frank Langella, fresh off freaking people in “The Box”, has joined the international thriller “Unknown White Male”. He joins Liam Neeson, January Jones and Diane Kruger in the film, which will star Neeson as a man who awakens from a coma to find somebody else has assumed his identity. Langella will play Cole, who comes forward as the coma guy’s colleague and gets involved as he tries to reclaim his identity. Shooting on “Unknown White Male” is expected »

I have always been a fan of Frank Langella. He was in one of my guilty pleasures as a horror fan, Brainscan. Go ahead, judge me.
From the Variety article:
Frank Langella has been set to star with Liam Neeson, January Jones and Diane Kruger in Unknown White Male, the Dark Castle thriller.
Neeson plays a man who awakens from a coma to find somebody else has assumed his identity. Langella plays Cole, who comes forward as the coma guy’s colleague and gets involved as he tries to reclaim his identity.
Shooting starts January in Berlin, with Warner Bros. distributing. Joel Silver produces with Leonard Goldberg and Andrew Rona. Steve Richards, Sarah Meyer and Peter McAleese are exec producers.
One thing that the article doesn’t mention is that Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan & House Of Wax) will be directing his third film for Dark Castle Films.

After the 80's passed it seemed that - for the most part - the slasher craze had finally come to a rest. Successful franchises like Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th had been siphoned beyond emptiness and any intrigue the sub genre once offered appeared dead and buried. Then 1996 rolled around and Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell reminded us that good directing, storytelling, and acting is alive and well with the surprise hit Scream.
The next couple of years provided a massive batch of 'fresh' copycats and a handful of Scream sequels. Very few of any are remotely near noteworthy (quick nod to I Know What You Did Last Summer in order to avoid the onslaught of negative commentary from the obsessed Sarah Michelle Gellar fans out there J ), though Scream 2 remains a memorable franchise installment based solely on the unexpected axing of series favorite Randy (Jamie Kennedy) Meeks. »

Former "Family Ties" mom Meredith Baxter attracted quite a few tweets when she came out on the "Today Show" this morning. Seth Meyers and Steve Agee, among others, took notice while a few others were still occupied with Tiger Woods.
Kevin Smith has been fielding posts about the title of his movie "A Couple of Dicks," which is getting a new, yet-to-be-determined title. I've included one of his tweets on the subject after the jump along with a former president introducing Jason Reitman's new film, Arnold Schwarzenegger's run-in with George Lucas and Paris Hilton's birthday message to Britney Spears. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 2, 2009.

Robert Pattinson cleaned up at the box office this weekend, along with the rest of the "New Moon" cast. One of his co-stars, however, would love to get together with him off-screen in the recording studio. The mega-release prompted reactions from Rainn Wilson and Brent Spiner as well today. "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli, meanwhile, tried to create a new vampire with a few photo tricks and a shot of Kat Dennings.
Check out all of that after the jump, along with Ice-t's photo op with the Naked Cowboy, philosophizing from Jim Carrey and Paris Hilton's new exotic pet. They're all on the little retweet mix tape I put together for you in the Twitter-Wood report for November 23, 2009.

"Kick-Ass" actress Chloe Moretz was among those tweeting good thoughts to Nicolas Cage and his family following the death of his father August Coppola this week. A literature professor and the brother of director Francis Ford Coppola, he reportedly died following a heart attack on Tuesday.
In other tweets, David Slade slipped a fresh image into his Twitter feed of actor Xavier Samuel from "Eclipse," which he says is the first look at Samuel's character Riley in the film. A couple of "Twilight" actors tweeted last minute contemplations over their Halloween costumes, while Edgar Wright may be giving up altogether and Russell Brand decried jack-o-lanterns as symbols for the season. Orphan is a terrible movie as it knowingly plays into all the horror cliches you can imagine, and does it twice, once to lure you into believing they won't bow down to convention and then a second time to show that they will. The film runs just over two hours, and requires absolute patience from its audience only to completely ruin any expectation you may have had with an ending unworthy of the time you dedicated to watching it.
Oh no, what's going to be behind the kitchen door when she closes it? Nothing, at least not the first time, but watch out that second time. What's going to be in the bathroom mirror when she slides it shut? Again, nothing, but that second time is a doozy.

If I told you the next Dark Castle horror-thriller flick would star January Jones and Diane Kruger, you'd probably be interested. If I told you that the most recent Dark Castle horror flicks were Whiteout, Orphan, and Return to House on Haunted Hill ... you'd probably be a little less interested. But with the presence of two stunning blondes (and a half-decent concept), Dark Castle's Unknown White Male is starting to sound a little intriguing.
According to Variety, Ms. Jones and Ms. Kruger will join the very busy (and very lucky) Liam Neeson in Unknown White Male, which "centers on a man who awakens from a coma to find that someone else has assumed his identity, and no one, including his wife, believes him." The director is Jaume Collet-Serra, whom the horror freaks may remember from (Dark Castle) flicks like Orphan and House of Wax. The stunning Diane Kruger is best-known for her work in Troy, »

Variety reports that January Jones and Diane Kruger have both signed on to star alongside Liam Neeson in the upcoming Dark Castle thriller Unknown White Male . With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is. Jones will play Neeson's wife, who gets caught up in a conspiracy regarding her husband. Kruger will play a Berlin taxi driver and Neeson's unexpected ally. (Funny, thought it'd be the other way around.) Jaume Collet-Serra ( Orphan , House Of Wax ) will direct from a screenplay penned by Oliver Butcher, Stephen Cornwell and Karl Gajdusek. Joel Silver produces along with Leonard Goldberg and Andrew Rona. »

While I wasn't a huge fan, Orphan was quite popular among the user reviews here on Bloody Disgusting. Mix that with a love for the House of Wax remake, you are surely going to be looking forward to Jaume Collet-Serra's latest Dark Castle collaboration, Unknown White Male, which has officially started full casting.
