Broderick's Wonderful World Gets A Trailer

24 November 2009 2:47 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Matthew Broderick has disappointed us time and time again. The worst part about actors like him is that we know they're capable of so much better. For every The Producers, there are two or three versions of Godzilla. For every Ferris Bueller, there.s an Inspector Gadget. Broderick.s latest, Wonderful World, seems to be taking him down a better road. While it looks to be taking equal parts from The Visitor and every other sentimental indie flick about a middle-aged man released in recent years, it has Matthew showing off his ability in ways that we haven.t seen in a long time. The flick follows a cynical divorcee who, when a friend falls ill, is forced to re-examine worldview and make some important decisions about his life. Apple brings us the first trailer of the flick, and as always, it can.t be embedded. I.ll tell you »

Motherhood (review)

2 November 2009 12:59 PM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

There are nice touches of what makes New York uniquely New York in this should-be-charminger little film, and they’re things that rarely get acknowledged onscreen. The awkward realities of living in a walkup apartment... six flights up. The daily dance of “alternate-side parking.” The true small-town, neighborhoody feel of the city. It’s too bad that writer-director Katherine Dieckmann couldn’t imbue her portrait of the titular state in this place with as much easy, authentic panache. It’s a day in the life for Uma Thurman’s (The Producers) crazy-busy stay-at-home mom on the especially busy day when she’s getting ready for her daughter’s sixth birthday party, and it’s all juggling the million things a mom needs to do for her family while also trying to grab a few minutes for herself. »

Broderick Play Delayed After Poor Start

28 October 2009 5:16 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The opening of Matthew Broderick's new Broadway play has been pushed back after the actor stunned fans by forgetting his lines during the show's preview.

The Producers star is playing the lead in The Starry Messenger but theatre-goers attending the play's first showing on Monday were shocked by the actor's poor performance.

Broderick, who has tackled numerous Broadway plays including The Foreigner and The Philanthropist, reportedly forgot his lines throughout the production, leaving the audience fuming.

A source tells the New York Daily News, "It was an overall mess. He kept apologising under his breath after he forgot a line and everyone in the audience began to feel awkward."

The Starry Messenger will now open a week behind schedule on 23 November. »

Exclusive: Potential 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' Investor Can't Guarantee His Involvement

9 October 2009 8:41 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

There's an old saying on Broadway that "the show must go on," and while that's certainly true, the adage doesn't necessarily apply to the troubled "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" production quite yet.

A recent report pegged the "Spider-Man" musical as back on track thanks to two new investors joining the fray to rescue our friendly neighborhood wallcrawler from his financial woes—but according to James D. Stern, one of the two alleged investors, nothing is a certainty yet.

"Yeah, I think that it would be good if people would actually talk to me before they write that sort of thing," Stern told MTV News. "It's not really—I mean, I don't know. Whether I'm involved in it or not, I don't have any idea yet."

While Stern's involvement in "Turn off the Dark" is speculative at best at this point, he nonetheless has more than enough Broadway credibility to potentially save the show. »

September 25: DVD alternatives to this weekend’s multiplex offerings

25 September 2009 10:31 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but you just gotta sing, gotta dance, gotta get a B in algebra so you can get into Julliard. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you check out that remake of Fame this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I went back to school in other musical theater ways.” Instead Of: Fame, the new updating of the classic 1980 film (I guess the kids all have cell phones and text their angst and despair to their friends instead of just talking about it)... Watch: The original Fame is, of course, your best place to start -- 30 years on, the movie is still relevant to the hearts and minds of teens, and still a sheer delight. If you need more all-singing, »

Ferrell's Career Looks Lost Indeed

8 June 2009 1:54 PM, PDT | newser.com | See recent newser news »

Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost is so far a box office bomb, and that’s no accident, Chris Nashawaty writes in Entertainment Weekly . It’s “just the latest proof that Ferrell’s shtick—the clueless, self-deprecating blowhard man-child—is growing stale.” Step Brothers , Semi Pro , The Producers , and Bewitched were either painful or been-there. “It’s time to change it up, man,” Nashawaty advises. If you bothered to laugh watching Land of the Lost previews, it was just “out of conditioned response to Ferrell’s previous track record.” It’s not that Ferrell wasn’t funny in movies like Anchorman , but his problem is predictability. “You ... »

Vanity Fair's Hollywood ~ Episode 11 (2005)

26 May 2009 2:21 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Missed previous episodes? See: 1995 , 1996, 1997, 1998 , 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Vanity Fair briefly killed my enthusiasm for the "Hollywood project" when they nixed the traditional cover for 2009. But time heals most wounds and I have reanimated the project's corpse. 2004's cover had 13 already peaking actresses on it. How'd they follow it in 2005? With another batch of goddesses, 60% of whom had already graced their "Hollywood" cover. In the case of the C/Kates, it was now thrice. Was Vanity Fair running out of ideas? Given the idiosyncratic pool the covers regularly pulled from you'd think there were only 40 actresses in Hollywood... but then, it's probably all in who you know who represents you when it comes to face time here. It's definitely not only about the fame. Consider this: this cover series lasted from 1995 - 2008 and Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Michelle Williams and Tilda Swinton never appeared on them (just four chronologically appropriate examples off the »

Kooky! Addams Family is headed to Broadway.

17 May 2009 7:06 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

When I had heard about an Addams family musical, one thought came to mind: "How come this hasn't been done already?" It has a theatrical A-list cast with Nathan Lane (The Producers) as the patriarch, Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth (Tadpole, Law & Order) as Morticia.

The story will be about Wednesday Addams, who is played by Krysta Rodriguez (Gossip Girl)who falls in love with a nice, normal boy. All of the famous family will be in it, from Uncle Fester to Grandmama and Pugsley. There will be a trial run of the production in Chicago at the Oriental Theater from Nov. 13 through Jan. 10th, then hit is set to hit Broadway around early April.  I'm really interested in seeing this. I have a theater background and I remember when the production rumors and casting began around Februrary this past year. Tickets go on sale May 29th and with all the buzz around the show, »

Kidman Waves Goodbye to Woody Allen Film - Who Should Replace Her?

13 May 2009 12:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

When I wrote about Nicole Kidman signing up for the next Woody Allen film in March, I bit my tongue and didn't mention my doubts. While I knew she could handle the material, I had a sneaking suspicion that it wouldn't come to fruition. This was not because I can see the future, but because many projects that she signs on for she inevitably exits -- Manderlay, The Reader, The Producers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, etc.

And now she's out of Allen's latest ensemble piece, according to Variety. While she was a solid addition to the cast that boasts the likes of Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts, and Freida Pinto, there's now a big hole to fill before production kicks off in London this summer. So the big question is: Who will fill it this time, and who should?

For the films I mentioned above, Kidman was replaced with Bryce Dallas Howard, »

Will Ferrell Eyes 'Neighborhood Watch' for Fox

6 May 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I am really hoping this summer's Land of the Lost is good as I would like to enjoy a Will Ferrell film again. Strangely enough my favorite Ferrell film from the past five years is one most people don't like at all, last year's Semi-Pro, but considering I haven't seen it since I will have to say Night at the Roxbury remains my favorite film in which Ferrell has toplined. I enjoyed him in Zoolander, he had his moments in Old School, I thought he was the worst part of Wedding Crashers and yet the best thing about the 2005 snoozer The Producers. Unfortunately, a re-team with Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkin doesn't exactly inspire confidence considering Dobkin's latest effort Fred Claus. The news comes from Variety, reporting Ferrell and Dobkin are both in negotiations for the 20th Century Fox comedy Neighborhood Watch penned by Jared Stern (Bolt). The film chronicles »

Broderick Snubs Small Screen Role

13 March 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Theatre star Matthew Broderick has turned down a string of big money offers to star in TV shows - because he refuses to swap his New York home for Los Angeles.

The Producers star's wife, Sarah Jessica Parker, became a fashionable feminist icon in long-running hit TV series Sex and the City.

But Broderick insists he's not eyeing a switch from the stage to the small screen, because he's convinced Parker and their six-year-old son, James Wilkie, would suffer if they moved to L.A.

He tells the New York Post, "With children that's difficult because I'd have to be here. TV is not an appeal because much of it shoots in La. I'm a New Yorker since I'm born. It's the best alternative for my life. Out there you're just staring at your wife and child. New York forces you to interact. My father used to say that in New York just buying a newspaper you get three conversations. I don't see anybody in my family picking up and moving to L.A." »
