Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.
Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

Ar Rahman - Indian of the Year

Ar Rahman has been named Indian of the Year by CNN-ibn and will receive the award at the Hotel Taj Palace on Dec 21st. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be in attendance. "Rahman has redefined contemporary Indian music and is the pride of the entire nation," said a spokesman for the company, "He is also an idol to millions for making a mark on the global music arena."
The maestro, who has over 300 million sales worldwide, has set up a Foundation to provide education to underprivileged children. "At the Foundation, we know that there is no better investment than that in the education of children," said a source.
Rahman has a busy month ahead of him. He will be performing live in Doha at the Aspire Dome on January 8th and he will follow this with an appearance at Parramatta Park in Sydney on January 16th as part of the

Chicago – The 45th Chicago International Film Festival will open with Katherine Dieckmann’s “Motherhood” and a star-studded red carpet where the film’s writer and director, Dieckmann and actress Uma Thurman at the AMC River East 21 Theater (322 E. Illinois St in Chicago) on Thursday, October 8th at 7pm.

Cinema/Chicago also plans on honoring Thurman’s work and her contribution to film with the Festival’s “Career Achievement Award,” which will be presented prior to the screening.
“Motherhood,” which opens to a limited amount of theaters on October 23, stars Uma Thurman, Anthony Edwards and Minnie Driver. I've been dismayed that Uma Thurman's post Kill Bill renaissance turned out to only be in my head. Vol I begat Vol II and not much else. The Life Before Her Eyes was a mess, Prime didn't catch on and the comedies... let's not talk about the comedies. But 2010 should be interesting for Umaphiles with three possible releases. She's got roles in two high profile kids features: Medusa in Percy Jackson, the nanny in Eloise in Paris. The third and most potentially thwartable as production and release plans go (it's not a big studio beast) is Girl Soldier, based on the novel Stolen Angels (pictured left) about human trafficking in Uganda.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Biz Blog, fan-favorite 80’s cartoon Voltron will finally go into film production thanks to Atlas Entertainment and producers Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Steve Alexander. Atlas Entertainment acquired the rights to Voltron from St. Louis-based World Events Productions.
With the incredible success of Transformers and Transformers 2, I was beginning to wonder why Voltron was taking so long to the big screen. As we reported nearly a year ago, 20th Century Fox had the rights to Voltron, but dropped the film. Since that time, a number of production companies have vied for the rights to the feature, with Atlas coming out on top after Relativity Media could not get the project off the ground before their option expired.

Overture Snags Rashida Jones Rom-Com

Overture's latest smart rom-com move was to purchase Celeste and Jesse Forever, a script written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, who will also star as Celeste. Celeste and Jesse Forever is the tale of a divorcing couple that is struggling to keep their friendship together while also seeing other people. Suzanne and Jennifer Todd will produce under their Team Todd shingle. This is the first screenplay credit for both actors; Rashida Jones was, of course, the adorable (and three-dimensional!) fiancé Zooey in this spring's I Love You, Man, and she is currently on the TV show Parks and Recreation. McCormack has been on TV shows like In Plain Sight and Brothers & Sisters, as well as in films like Syriana and Team Todd-produced Prime and Must Love Dogs. As previously reported on Cinematical, the spec script was initially picked up by Fox Atomic.

Vanity Fair briefly killed my enthusiasm for the "Hollywood project" when they nixed the traditional cover for 2009. But time heals most wounds and I have reanimated the project's corpse. 2004's cover had 13 already peaking actresses on it. How'd they follow it in 2005? With another batch of goddesses, 60% of whom had already graced their "Hollywood" cover. In the case of the C/Kates, it was now thrice. Was Vanity Fair running out of ideas? Given the idiosyncratic pool the covers regularly pulled from you'd think there were only 40 actresses in Hollywood... but then, it's probably all in who you know who represents you when it comes to face time here. It's definitely not only about the fame. Consider this: this cover series lasted from 1995 - 2008 and Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Michelle Williams and Tilda Swinton never appeared on them (just four chronologically appropriate examples off the

2009 seems to be the summer of action, more so than last year’s so-so slate could ever hope to be. Included in this year’s slate of course, are a number of prequels sure to rock the socks off of those who will be going to see them. In fact, 2009 seems to have more prequels than normal, perhaps more than ever!
